Rita Goldstein

Rita Blau Goldstein, age 94, passed away peacefully in her sleep on February 17, 2022, at her home in Garwood, New Jersey.  She was born and raised in the Bronx and resided in South Plainfield and Plainfield before moving to Garwood 13 years ago.

Rita graduated from New York City’s Hunter College High School, followed by Hunter College, earning her bachelor's degree in psychology. She taught nursery school and elementary school for over 20 years in the Bronx, the Plainfield Hebrew Institute and Clinton School in Plainfield. Rita was a proud member and steward of her union, the New Jersey Education Association.

She was proud of her Jewish heritage and was a past member of Temple Beth El in Plainfield, a current member of Congregation Beth Israel in Scotch Plains, a member of Hadassah, and a past President of the Women’s Division of the Plainfield Jewish Community Center. 

Rita was a very active woman who enjoyed traveling, dancing, and playing tennis. She loved to socialize and could have a conversation with anyone. Most of all she enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Rita was predeceased by her loving husband Abraham Goldstein. She is survived by her three children, Jeffrey Goldstein and his wife Lorraine Kolibas, Donna Perch and her husband Murray Perch, and Joyce Goldstein; six grandchildren, Rebecca Berger and her husband Daniel Berger, Sarah Caper and her husband Brian Caper, Marissa Perch and her fiancé Maxim Geidman, Gabriel Pincus and his wife Katarina O’Regan, Michael Goldstein, and Kayla Pincus; and three great-grandchildren; Rachel, Andrew, and Leo Berger.

A funeral service will be held on Sunday, February 20, 2022, at 10:30 am at Congregation Beth Israel, 1920 Cliffwood Street, Scotch Plains, NJ 07076.  Interment will follow at Hebrew Cemetery in South Plainfield, NJ. Shiva will be held on Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the charity of your choice.
