Obituary of Caroline Elise Mueller
Caroline Elise Mueller, (née Grander), 88, died peacefully on Wednesday, February 23, 2022, surrounded by her loving children and her beloved cat, Molly, at her home in Warren Township, NJ.
A loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and great grandmother, she was born in Garwood, NJ, and raised in Westfield, NJ where she met the love of her life, her husband Henry “Hank” Mueller in high school. They married in 1955 at the First United Methodist Church in Westfield, NJ.
After high school, Caroline went on to pursue a career in Nursing. She graduated from Newark Presbyterian Hospital School of Nursing in 1954 with an R.N. certification. She held various nursing positions during her career and retired in 1994.
Caroline was a long-time member of the Union Village United Methodist Church in Berkeley Heights, NJ.
Every day Caroline loved to read the newspaper from cover to cover and do the daily crossword puzzles while listening to her favorite radio shows. She also kept busy knitting and doing cross-stitch. Over the years she knitted many hats, scarves, and sweaters as well as personalized Christmas stockings for each family member. She also cross-stitched grandchild birth announcements and home decorations for her entire family. In the warmer months, Caroline was involved in cooking, canning, and preserving the many fruits and vegetables from her husband’s backyard garden. Caroline and her husband also loved baseball season and were loyal fans of the New York Mets. She adored the beach and the family’s many annual vacations to Wildwood Crest, NJ and Ft. Myers Beach, FL as well as day trips to Sandy Hook, NJ. An avid cat lover, Caroline had numerous cats throughout her childhood and adult life in addition to several dogs during her marriage.
Her most treasured memories were of the special times she shared with her family and friends. Her fervent wish was that her family continue the family get-togethers even after her death.
Mrs. Mueller is survived by her children Jeffrey Mueller (Michele), Lisa Jahn (Rick), Nancy Tighe (Danny), Gary Mueller (Debra); grandchildren Nick (Shera), TJ, Kristen (Troy), Katie (Michael), Scott (Emily), Matthew (Megan), Brian (Katie), Alison, Kristina, Stephanie; great-grandchildren Lucas, Grace, Ava; sisters-in-law Connie Mueller and Barbara Grander.
She is predeceased by her husband of 60 years, Henry, who died in 2015, brother, Harry Grander, and brother-in-law, William Mueller.
Family and friends are invited to attend a Celebration of Life service on Saturday, March 26, 2022, at the Union Village Methodist Church in Berkeley Heights, NJ at 10:00 a.m. A private Final Prayer Service for only immediate family members will follow at the Somerset Hills Memorial Park.
