Obituary of Joanne Quense
Joanne Quense, age 91, passed away on Monday, July 11, 2022, at her home at 9 Mary Street, Warren, NJ. She was born on December 16, 1930, in Abington, Pennsylvania, and raised in several areas in Pennsylvania by her parents, Albert and Sarah Mildred McKinley.
Joanne studied at Bryn Mawr Hospital School of Nursing where she received her RN.
She later resided, with her husband Walter and their 8 children in Glen Ridge NJ until 1977, when she moved to Berkeley Heights NJ. In 1985 they decided to make 9 Mary Street Warren, NJ their home.
Joanne lived her Catholic Faith deeply and spent her life caring for her family and others and serving God; she was a member of The People of Hope Catholic Charismatic Community and a parishioner of St Mary’s, Watchung.
Joanne is predeceased by her husband of 67 years, Walter James Quense (2020), her father, Albert McKinley (1967), her mother, Sarah Mildred Dixon McKinley (2004), and her older sister, Jane (2019), and her son-in-law Mark Helfrich (2020).
She is survived by her children, Cathy (Sandy) Alhstrom, John (Mary) Quense, Cindy (Tim) Hughes, Br. Stephen Quense, Paul (Suzanne) Quense, Peter (Mary) Quense, Theresa Helfrich, and Sr. Christine Quense; her sister Sarah (Sally) Fost, her brother Robert McKinley; 35 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren.
A visitation will be held Thursday, July 14, 2022, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 pm at Higgins Home for Funerals, 752 Mountain Blvd. Watchung, NJ.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 10 AM Friday, July 15, 2022, at St. Mary’s Stony Hill Church in Watchung, Interment will be at St. Mary’s Stony Hill Cemetery, Berkeley Heights, NJ.
