Obituary of Ellen M. O'Shaughnessy
Ellen M. O’Shaughnessy, age 61, passed away on Thursday July 28, 2022, at the Monmouth Medical Center in Longbranch, NJ. Born in Brooklyn, NY Ellen had resided in Spotswood for several years before moving to Manhattan where, she spent most of her life. Recently, Ellen had relocated to Long Branch NJ.
Ellen had been in the hospitality industry for many years and for the past several years had been working at the Omni Hotel in Manhattan as a bartender.
Ellen loved to travel, and as a young woman, she spent time in Paris, France working as a model. She loved art, painting and drawing. She adored her pets and lovingly took in many rescue dogs and cats over the years. She was passionate about race walking, and participated in numerous successful marathons and races throughout her life. She continually inspired others to join her, and influenced the lives of many young runners through her coaching and mentoring. In the past year, she fulfilled her dream of living near the beach and enjoyed every moment of it.
She is survived by her husband Noel Casey, two brothers Curt Hernon and his wife Patty and Scott Hernon and his wife Maria; a nephew Eddie; her aunt Martha. She is also survived by several cousins, extended family, and loving friends.
A memorial gathering will be held on Saturday August 6th, 2022, from 2 to 4pm at Higgins Home for Funerals 752 Mountain Blvd. Watchung NJ 07069 followed by a memorial service at 4pm. Ellen’s earthly remains will take place later at Holy Cross Cemetery in Brooklyn NY in the family plot.
