Rahul will remain an exceptional nephew with an amazing aptitude for bridging and bonding with elders, and respecting them thoroughly. His knack to converse both in meaningful and mirthful ways made him absolutely adorable. In addition, his thoughtfulness was a beautiful part of him. He has provided each one of us with fascinating memories to cherish, and that will make him remain amidst us, forever.
My prayers are with you Nanhe Babu, Kumud, Rakhi and John in this time of grief.

I feel sad that Rahul is no more. He was my maternal younger brother. I have high regards for his scholarship. He was a brave person who lived life with courage, integrity and conviction. His family have the courage to bear loss. Death ends a life, not a relationship. You will be with us forever. R B N Sinha

While your journey was brief, and no words can describe the pain and sorrow of your leaving us so early, the happy memories you have created through your generosity and care will be there forever. You have always been special to us and that is indelible. I remember watching in amazement how you as 4-year-old unafraid playing with the big dogs in Patna and they reciprocating your raw love with licks and wagging tails. Still can't believe how an 8-10-year-old could gulp down such spicy pain puris...your love for India.. your deep insights... so many fond and incredible memories... its hard to fathom that you will not be around us physically anymore... But when I shut my eyes, the happy memories you have created flood around making your presence immanent. Lots of love and prayers.

This is hard. Rahul u grew up around me and we shared 4 precious years together. No idea where to start - even before I came to the US - I knew u. Your visits to Patna and Jamshedpur - epic - golgappa, feni feni ka bachcha , u biting feni- so many memories. The innumerable conversations that we had - ranging from authors ( u beat me in that) food, eastern life and western life - thank u. When I came here to the US - u were there for me. You taught me the bus routes,( I used your student pass- S-53 free ride) took me to the Staten Island beach, ferry terminal - showed me Brooklyn- You corrected and helped me w my English Lit essays - U teased me about my crushes - U and I wrote shayari - poetry and believe me u are a harsh grader( perfectionist). Memories of you helping me with my clothes for a date - I guess I was tacky! All I can say is - dude - God should have let u be here longer. Not fair. Side bar - Rahul wherever you are - we will miss you and with your laugh and eclectic personality u are bringing joy to others around you. Unfortunately I can’t share the joy u r spreading with u but we will meet. Take care brother - love u and continue shining.

We will dearly miss you Rahul.
All of us being in same age group, your vacation trips to Patna and Dhanbad were filled with dhamaka, badmashi gosspi, khana peena and jhagda with each other at 47. Then when I moved to NY, you helped me a lot to get settled and later Shailaja. So many memories of eating your yummy food and food experiments in Staten Island. And many fun little moments we had whenever we got together. We will miss you.

Rarely would one find a person who would ease into conversations with people of all ages, Rahul, you did , inane or deep, you wouldn’t let one have a boring moment. I personally connected with you on art, music, authors, poets, cooking, tips on self-care products and fashion aesthetics, from the best honey at the farmers’ market to Rushdie’s Haroun and much more. On my visits to NY I shall miss your patient and insightful company at the museums, also when having funnel cake, gyro, or skimming Strand bookstore, even Sephora. I have the books you’d gifted from your home library in Brooklyn and playlists you’d shared, fondly remember the rice crispies you’d made for me; for all things immaterial and otherwise, you’ll be distinctly missed. For more chuckles and laughs, I’ll see you on the other side.

Saw you grow up from a little lad with bushy curls to a tall, handsome and intelligent man. Always a confident, witty guy with good sense of fashion and innumerable passions. That episode of you getting tossed out of the car when I was driving, and your teeth marks digging deep into my hand while your injury was being stitched up, seems like from not a faraway yesterday. When you grew up, one to one, we had conversations touching diverse points and subjects, it was wonderful bonding over food with you, your stay with us in our Kolkata and Mumbai homes, goofing around with our girls, you’ve given us memories we shall always retain.

Rahul mama, will miss our chats, your recipe advise to me whenever I needed it, and the amount you'd pamper me when we saw each other. I found a photo from when you took us on a walk in Brooklyn when we visited. Nana, nani, sending you love and prayers

It heart wrenching for a parent to see their young son pass away before them. Even worst to have to live it twice. Rahul was an endearing affectionate person who could brighten anyone's life. But God moves in mysterious ways and we all must abide by it. Maybe he was set for higher things. With lots 9f love to him wherever he is and sincere condolences and strength to all his well wishers to overcome this unspeakable loss

Dear Maussa and Maussi,
It is heart wrenching what pain you have to go through
at such a tragic loss. I pray that you may find strength and courage and and that dear Rahul may find the grace from the Almighty.
I remember meeting Rahul so often at Nita’s home in the 90’s. His intelligent and fun conversations were so interesting. His knowledge on most things about India was impressive.
He embarks on another journey. May he find eternal Peace.
With deepest condolences, humble respects and prayers.

It's so difficult to use the past tense 'was' for Rahul, just 46. I remember him for his many qualities but the most endearing was his laughter. Rahul loved Nandita's (my late wife) Goulash. He respected her for her academic work and would, during our stay at Princeton, engage with her on matters of gender. Rahul was not only an innovative and a brilliant cook, a bright thinking young man, but he was a beautiful human being. Its tragic that he left so early for he would have spread so much more joy.

Bro I cannot imagine you not being there, will really really miss you. It seems like yesterday, that we trekked the Himalayan range from one peak to the next. It seems like yesterday, we splashed at the beach at odisa. It seems like yesterday, months of your stay in Bombay with me and our discussions on spirituality, politics, film, music and food. How can I forget the tour of NYC in 2006 and you show cased NYC like a proud New Yorker from Staten Island. Thank you for introducing books in my life and especially Salman Rushdie and Haraki Murakami. The list is endless. Will miss you rest in peace Rahul. Om Shanti Om. Sidhu

Dear Mausi and Mausa ji all we can say is when we speak of him, speak not with tears, for thoughts of him should not be sad. Let memories of the times you shared give you comfort, for his life was rich because of you. Guria n Muku.

I have many wonderful memories of Rahul in college. I will never forget the night he cooked us dinner, just the two of us, a quiet night in. He specifically catered to my non spicy palette, a very caring gesture. He only teased me a little! I will miss him.
