Obituary of Yvonne Mouridy
Yvonne Mouridy, age 95, passed away peacefully Sunday morning August 28, 2022, at Brandywine Living at Middlebrook Crossing in Bridgewater. Born in Brooklyn, Yvonne grew up in Paterson and had resided in Weehawken before moving to Wayne. Yvonne lived in Wayne for 50 years raising her family and recently moved to Bridgewater eight years ago.
Prior to retiring Yvonne worked as a travel agent for over 20 years. In her career, she worked for several agencies, the most recent was the Oakland Travel Agency in Oakland NJ. As a travel agent, Yvonne was one of the first to organize chartered bus trips to the casinos in Atlantic City and she also specialized in trips to Hawaii.
She was a devoted member of the St. Ann Melkite Catholic Church in Woodland Park and Our Lady of the Valley in Wayne.
Yvonne loved to travel, thanks in part to her job. Yvonne and her husband Joseph traveled the world, some of her favorite trips were to Hawaii, England, Morocco, Australia, and to the Holy Land in Israel. She enjoyed playing cards with her close friends and family. Yvonne was also an excellent cook; she took great pride in teaching the family her traditional Syrian recipes. Her three daughters-in-law all received a Syrian cookbook. Most of all she greatly enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren, and in the past year with her great-grandchild.
Yvonne is predeceased by her loving husband, Joseph Mouridy Sr., a brother, Victor Karacand, and a sister, Claudette Karacand.
She is survived by her three sons Glenn Mouridy and his wife Debra, Joseph Mouridy Jr. and his wife Roselia, and Gary Mouridy and his wife Charmel; six grandchildren, Michael and his wife Rebecca, Douglas and his fiancée Shoshana, Christina, Maria, Joseph III, Gabrielle, and Anthony; one great-grandson, Benjamin. She is also survived by her brother, Albert Karacand, and a sister, Theresa Basales.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 30, 2022, from 4 to 8 pm, at Higgins Home for Funerals, 752 Mountain Blvd., Watchung, NJ 07069. The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, August 31, 2022, at 11 am at St. Ann Melkite Catholic Church 802 Rifle Camp Rd. Woodland Park NJ 07424. Entombment will follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery and Mausoleum in Totowa, NJ.
