Obituary of Katherine V. Daley
Katherine V. Daley (McGarry) peacefully passed away on Saturday, January 7, 2023, at the age of 91. She was born on October 2, 1931, in Plainfield, New Jersey, to Catherine (Brennan) and Patrick J. McGarry. In 2020, after 70 years of marriage, Katherine lost the love of her life, Edward J. Daley. They will be eternally bound by their immense unconditional love for each other and their family.
Katherine was a loving mother to two daughters, Joan Marie and Linda. She devoted her life to family and friends. Nana loved spending time with her grandchildren and making things extra special for them. She planned “Grand” Holiday celebrations, attended school and sports events, and planned summertime vacations down at their shore house in Ocean Beach Unit III. Katherine loved to write poetry and was so proud when her poems were featured in numerous publications. Nana wrote a poem for each of her grandchildren and some of her great-grandchildren, which they will cherish forever.
Katherine was a longtime active member of Blessed Sacrament Church in Martinsville, NJ, and enjoyed the women’s prayer group. Katherine was very politically active when younger and, in later years, taught herself how to use the internet to get votes. She was an avid reader and enjoyed playing bridge.
Katherine was predeceased by her parents; her loving husband, Edward J. Daley; her son-in-law, John R. Conaty; and two brothers, Joseph P McGarry and David T. McGarry.
Katherine will be sadly missed by her daughter and son-in-law, Joan Marie and Francis Donaldson of Mantoloking, NJ, and her daughter Linda Conaty of Bridgewater, NJ; her five grandchildren, Kimberly M. Donaldson-Smith (Darren), Colleen A. Blejwas (Donald), Rebecca L. Dilthey (John), Caroline M. Swensen, and Jeffery S. Swensen (Laura), and her seven great-grandchildren Samantha V. Rocciolo, Abigail and William Blejwas, Charles and James Swensen, and Miles and Diana Dilthey. Also, by her brother James McGarry and many nieces and nephews.
