Obituary of John Brooke Gardiner

John Brooke Gardiner, age 93, passed away on Saturday, February 18, 2023, at Overlook Hospital in Summit, NJ.   Mr. Gardiner was born in Bryn Mawr, PA, and had resided in Chapel Hill, NC, before settling in Mountainside, NJ.

Mr. Gardiner graduated from Haverford Prep High School in Haverford, PA.  He went on to future his education at Haverford College to obtain his bachelor’s degree and his Ph.D. at the University of North Carolina.

Mr. Gardiner was in the army reserves.

Mr. Gardiner was a research chemist at Exxon Mobil in Linden, NJ, for 35 years before his retirement.

He was a member of the First Congregational Church in Westfield, NJ.

Mr. Gardiner enjoyed scuba diving, glass blowing, tending to his bonsai trees, sculpting, painting, and science fiction. However, his greatest joy was spending time with his family.

He is predeceased by his sister Carol Gardiner.

Mr. Gardiner is survived by his wife, Beth Gardiner; his two sons, Allen Gardiner and Blair Gardiner, and his wife, Regina; his four grandchildren, John Brooke Gardiner, Kendra Gardiner, Alex Gardiner, and Symone Gardiner.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 4, 2023, at 12:00 pm at the First Congregational Church, 125 Elmer Street, Westfield, NJ 07090.  A repast will follow at 1:15 pm at the Stage House, 366 Park Ave, Scotch Plains, NJ 07076
