Obituary of Robert Blom

Robert Blom, age 83, passed away on Saturday, March 4, 2023,at Overlook Hospital in Summit, NJ. Born in Brooklyn, NY, Robert (Bobby) had resided in East Brunswick, Long Valley, Newbury NH and Holden MA, before recently moving back to NJ.

Bobby proudly served in the United States Navy for several years as a corpsman. While serving in the military Bobbytraveled the world, stationed on an icebreaker. He fondly remembers watching the albatross landing on the ice in the Antarctic.  

Bobby earned a bachelor’s degree in business psychology from Long Island University in Staten Island at night while working for Western Electric.

Prior to his retirement, Bobby worked as a manager in several large companies, such as Western Electric, AT&T and Fedders Inc., as well as co-owning Deerland Corporation in Norristown PA.  After retiring, he remained active, working at Walmart, as a lifeguard and water aerobics instructor at the Hunterdon Wellness Center, and at Mount Sunapee Resort in NH so he could ski for free.  

Bobby had a passion for nature and being outdoors.  He enjoyed hiking, camping, skiing, swimming, and fishing. He was a history enthusiast and remained up to date on current politics. Bobby was an avid Disney fan. He loved watching Disney classics, such as UP, Tangled, Bambi, and Pinocchio. His laughter could be heard throughout the theaters.  He loved to talk and tell stories of his childhood antics in Brooklyn.  

Most of all Bobby loved spending time with his family, especially his six grandchildren. His favorite times were spent at the beach in the water with the kids body surfing and jumping waves.  Babysitting his grandchildren after-school he becameevery kid’s Pop, and loved it.

Bobby is predeceased by his four brothers John, Henry, Arthur and Dennis, and his grandson Zachary G. Schmitt in 2020.

He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years Johanna Blom, two daughters Alicia Blom Schmitt and her husband Thomas and Elizabeth Dolak Blom and her husband Joseph; and five grandchildren - Thomas , Alexander, Hanna, Nicholas, and Emily. He is also survived by his sister Helen Wright and brother-in-law Richard Wright, his cousin Yvonne Dunham, hissister-in-law Anne Blom, and by many nieces, nephews, extended family members and loving friends.
