Obituary of Harold C. Psemeneki, Sr.
Harold C. Psemeneki, Sr., 77, of Martinsville, NJ, passed away peacefully at home on March 13, 2023.
Harold was born January 16, 1946, and grew up in an apartment building above his grandparents’ market and butcher shop in Bayonne, NJ. His family eventually moved to Mountainside, NJ.
Upon graduation from Governor Livingston high school in 1963, he enlisted in the Navy and became a postal clerk on a destroyer which allowed him to see far-away places, including the Mediterranean and Africa.
Harold met his wife Rosetta while both working at the Rialto Theater in Westfield, NJ, during their high school years. They married on June 18, 1967.
After marriage, Harold became a Navy “Seabee” reservist and transferred to the Army reserves specializing in supply. He retired from military service in 1990 after 27 years, attaining the rank of Master Sergeant.
Harold worked for NJ Bell/Verizon as a telephone installer and retired after 35 years in 2001. His work gave him a vast knowledge of the state of NJ, but he especially loved working in the Neshanic area towards the end of his career. After retirement from Verizon, he held several local odd jobs and enjoyed retirement with his wife and family.
Harold was proud of his Polish-American heritage but became an honorary Italian after his marriage to Rosetta. He was an avid student of history and enjoyed many types of music and classic mystery movies. He was most especially proud of his children, grateful to be “Dziadziu” to his grandchildren, and enjoyed the company of his large extended family and many friends.
Harold was preceded in death by his parents, Theodore and Alyce Pszemenecki (Psemeneki), and his sister Alyce Hunter.
Harold is survived by his wife of 55 years, Rosetta; his sons, Charles (Christopher), Brother Ted, Harold Jr. (Cathi), and daughter, Amy (Lucas); grandchildren, Emma, Cole, Ava, Lia, and Nathan; and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be on Sunday, March 19, 2023, from 2 to 6 p.m. at Higgins Funeral Home, 752 Mountain Blvd., Watchung, NJ.
