Obituary of Gloria G. Padilla
Gloria G. Padilla, age 84, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family, on Tuesday, March 21, 2023, at Morristown Medical Center. Born in Cataño, Puerto Rico, Gloria moved to Hoboken in 1953 then to Jersey City (Greenville) in 1979 and resided there until moving to Brandywine Assisted Living, Watchung, NJ in 2021.
Gloria was a substitute teacher at St. Joseph’s School in Hoboken in the late 70’s and a salesperson at Poller’s Fabric store in Jersey City for many years. She later worked in the Finance Dept as a bookkeeper for the Trust Company of NJ in Jersey City (Journal Square) for many years until her retirement.
Gloria was a dedicated member of St. Joseph’s RC Church in Hoboken. She was a member of their women’s group, “Las Hijas de Maria” and a member of “Las Madres Christianas”. The church was her life. She spent many hours with her husband, Angel, volunteering at and supporting their Parish they loved unconditionally, St. Joseph’s Church.
She was a generous and loving person. Gloria always went out of her way and made herself available to a family member or friend in need. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother and will be remembered for her selflessness, kindness, and how she treated others. She was a role model to her entire family and a great Christian throughout her life.
Gloria’s son Gregory predeceased her in 2010.
Gloria is survived by her husband of 62 years, Angel Padilla; two children, Angelo Padilla and Kevin Padilla and his wife Amira; nine grandchildren, Mikaela, Bella, Luca, Cora, Angelo Jr., Fabian, Sidney, Jared and Ian. She is also survived by three great grandchildren, Dominica, Emiliana and Evangeline. She embraced Julian Hernandez, her nephew, as her own son and loved him without reservation.
A visitation will be held on Sunday, March 26, 2023, from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Higgins Home for Funerals, 752 Mountain Blvd., Watchung, NJ. A funeral mass will be held on Monday, March 27, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Bartholomew the Apostle Roman Catholic Church, 2032 Westfield Avenue, Scotch Plains, NJ. The entombment will follow immediately will follow after the mass at Holy Cross Cemetery, 340 Ridge Road, North Arlington, NJ.
