Obituary of Carolyn Portman

Carolyn Portman, aged 76, passed away on Sunday, April 23, 2023, at Overlook Hospital in Summit, NJ. Born on March 8, 1947, in Elizabeth, NJ, Carolyn was a beloved resident of North Plainfield, NJ, since 2005.

Carolyn dedicated much of her career to serving customers at ShopRite in Linden, NJ, where she was highly regarded for her hard work and commitment to her role. In her leisure time, Carolyn enjoyed the company of her niece Frances and her nephew Glenn’s three dogs, whom she helped to care for and loved dearly.

Carolyn also had a tender heart for backyard birds and took delight in feeding them. In addition, she was a devoted fan of professional wrestling and enjoyed watching it on TV. Carolyn cherished the conversations she had with friends at Frank's Barber Shop in Watchung, NJ, where she always made sure to offer a listening ear and a warm smile.

Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents, George and Mary Portman, as well as her sister and brother, Joan (née Portman) Gallagher and Roger Portman.

She is survived by her nieces and nephews, Lisa Smith, Frances Gallagher, Richard Gallagher, and Glenn Gallagher, as well as several great-nieces who brought her immense joy. Carolyn's kind-hearted and gentle nature touched the lives of many, and she will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

A visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 26, 2023, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am, followed by an 11:00 am funeral service at Higgins Home For Funerals, 752 Mountain Blvd., Watchung, NJ 07069. Interment will follow at Rosehill Cemetery in Linden, NJ.
