Obituary of Geraldine Haushalter

Geraldine Haushalter, age 92, passed peacefully on Tuesday, April 25, 2023, at her home in Bedminster, surrounded by her loving family. Born and raised in Jersey City, Geraldine had moved to Scotch Plains and lived there for many years while raising her family. In 2004 she moved to Bedminster.

Geraldine had attended secretarial school at Fordham University in New York City.

After completing that program, Geraldine began working as an executive secretary for Homelife Insurance Company in New York City. It is there where she met her husband-to-be, George Haushalter. The couple soon married and moved to Scotch Plains to raise their family.

Geraldine was a devoted catholic and a former member of St. Helen’s RC Church in Westfield. She was also a current active communicant of Blessed Sacrament RC Church in Martinsville.

She was a member of the Scotch Plains Garden Club. In her spare time, she enjoyed word search and crossword puzzles; she also played bridge with her friends. Geraldine was an avid reader and enjoyed painting and drawing. Most of all, she loved spending time with her family.

She is predeceased in death by her late husband, George Haushalter, and her brother Jack O’Reardon. 

She is survived by her three daughters Susan Scott and her husband Brian, Tracy Didinger, and Nancy Konen; twelve grandchildren, Jeffrey, Christopher (Jessica), Erin, Kyle, Sheldon, Kaitlin, Cassandra, Alexis, Tyler, Lucas, Tristin, Kimberlyn; she is also survived by one great-grandson Brayden.

A visitation will be held on Monday, May 1, 2023, from 9 am to 10 am at Higgins Home for Funerals, 752 Mountain Blvd. Watchung NJ 07069 followed by a 10:30 am funeral mass at Blessed Sacrament Church in Martinsville, NJ. The entombment will be at Restland Cemetery in East Hanover, NJ.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her loving memory to St. Hubert's Animal Welfare Center in Madison.
