Obituary of Filomena Ciufo

Filomena Ciufo, a 93-year-old resident of Basking Ridge, passed away in her home on Saturday, May 20, 2023. She was surrounded by family. Born in Tufo di Minturno, Italy, she moved to Plainfield at 18 and lived there for the majority of her life before relocating to Sunset Lake, Basking Ridge.

Filomena had long-standing employment at Bell Labs, working in the housekeeping department for 15 years until her retirement in 1995. A practicing Catholic, Filomena frequently attended Mass at Blessed Sacrament Church in Martinsville. She had a knack for sewing and crocheting, having crafted all the drapes in her home, and also enjoyed baking.

She was preceded in death by her grandson Ricki Villafrade, her son-in-law Edward Galandak, and her sister Angelina Mastantuono.

She is survived by her husband of 70 years, Joseph Ciufo, her daughter Rose Galandak, her son August Ciufo and his wife Helena, grandson William Ciufo, granddaughter-in-law Maria Villafrade, and three great-grandchildren, Michilina, Anthony, and Ella Villafrade. 

A graveside service will be held at the chapel at Somerset Hills Memorial Park, 95 Mount Airy Rd., Basking Ridge NJ, on Friday, May 26, 2023, at 11 am.
