Obituary of Sonia Maude Challancin
Sonia Maude Challancin, 90, passed peacefully on May 22, 2023. Born July 26, 1932, she was the daughter of the late Peter and Edith Challancin and sister of the late Virginia Dealaman.
Sonia is also preceded in death by her nephew, Fred Dealaman.
Sonia is survived by her nephew, Scott Dealaman, and his wife, Marietta of Warren, N.J., her niece, Judy and her husband, Ralph Kiracofe of Farmingdale, N.J., and her niece-in-law, Linda Dealaman of Ruskin, Fla. Also, her Grandnephew Fred Dealaman and his wife Brittany, Grandniece Elizabeth Barlow and daughter Ophelia, Grandnephew Charlie Dealaman and his wife Jessica, Grandniece Amanda, her husband Scott Trinka and their two children Elise and Tristan, Grandnephew Mathew Dealaman his wife Tiffany and daughter Alessandra, cousins Mike and Roy DeBisco of Warren, NJ. Sonia also has many loved Cousins in Florida, just to mention a few Joyce, Donna, Mike, Bobby, Eugene, Betty, and many others.
Sonia went to North Plainfield High School, studied at the Philadelphia Biblical University, and worked for Word of Life before becoming the secretary to the principal of Bernards High School in Bernardsville, NJ, and then retiring after 25 years of service.
Sonia was a lifelong resident of Warren, NJ. She attended Liberty Corner Presbyterian church. She loved her cats and dogs. Sonia spent many an hour painting and even won some awards with her paintings. Sonia enjoyed traveling with her sister Virginia to such places as the Canadian Rockies, Calgary Stampede, Ireland, Holland, Hawaii, and Alaska, and she always talked about the trip to Africa to visit her friends Trudy and Dave and the Safari they took.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, June 3, 2023, from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. at Higgins Home for Funerals, 752 Mountain Blvd. Watchung NJ 07069, followed by a funeral service at 10 a.m. at the funeral home. The burial will follow at Somerset Hills Memorial Park in Basking Ridge.
