Obituary of Sandra Ofri
Sandra Ofri (nee Katz) passed away peacefully on Friday, May 26, 2023, at Morristown Medical Center. Born and raised in the vibrant neighborhood of Williamsburg, Brooklyn, Sandra later relocated to Long Valley, NJ, where she dedicated herself to nurturing her family. In search of closer bonds with her sister, she eventually settled in Hamilton, NJ, before establishing her residence in Watchung, NJ.
Sandra proudly obtained her degree in psychology from Brooklyn College. She embarked on a professional journey that commenced as an English teacher, later transitioning into a fulfilling career as an agent for the INS. Following a hiatus to prioritize raising her son, she resumed her work and served as a compassionate home health aide for the ARC of the United States.
Sandra will forever be remembered for her vibrant conversations, sense of humor, and selfless dedication to helping others. As a proud single mother, she exemplified sacrifice and perseverance in her unwavering efforts to provide the best for her son. Her cherished memories will be eternally treasured by her loved ones. Sandra lived life on her own terms, embracing her independence and inspiring those around her with her strength and resilience. She found joy in playing mahjong at the senior community center in Hamilton and was an avid reader and member of her book club. Above all, her greatest happiness came from spending time with her family, especially her two grandchildren.
Sandra was preceded in death by her sister, Pearl Katz.
She is survived by her son, Jon and his wife, Pam, her two, grandchildren, Ryan and Avi, and her sister, Shirley.
A memorial gathering will be held on Thursday, June 1, 2023, from 4:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m., at Higgins Home For Funerals, 752 Mountain Blvd., Watchung, NJ. On Friday, June 2, 2023, at 11 a.m., a funeral service will be held at Somerset Hills Memorial Park, located at 95 Mount Airy Road, Basking Ridge, NJ, followed immediately by an inurnment.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation.
