In Loving Memory of Elizabeth Donnelly Comune
October 23, 1930 - June 8, 2023
Elizabeth (Bette) Donnelly Comune, a longtime resident of Middlesex, passed away on June 8, 2023, at the age of 92. She was born on October 23, 1930, to her loving parents, John and Catherine (Barry) Donnelly.
Bette was raised in Elizabeth, New Jersey, where she spent her childhood and early years. She met the love of her life, Joseph Louis Comune and they were married in 1954, settling in Plainfield. They later moved to Middlesex, where they raised their family. They were married for 56 beautiful years until Joseph's passing in 2011. She called Middlesex home for 63 years.
Bette dedicated many of her working years to Bellcore before retiring in 1995. Additionally, she was an active member of the Telephone Pioneers, engaging in various community activities. Her love for children led her to entertain them through a literacy program where she would read to them while dressed as a clown.
Bette cherished summers with her family at Normandy Shores and especially enjoyed collecting sea glass along the beach. She enjoyed golfing, Atlantic City, volunteering at Robert Wood Johnson in Somerset, and was proud of her Irish heritage. Many winters were spent in Florida with dear friends.
In her retirement, Bette discovered a passion for quilting, becoming an avid quilter and making many quilts for family, friends, and charitable organizations.
Bette was preceded in death by her parents, John and Catherine Donnelly, her beloved husband, Joseph, her son, Christopher, her brother, Francis Donnelly, and her sister, Mary Jean Demarest.
She is survived by her daughters, Kathleen Schubert and Joanne Comune, son-in-law, Raymond Schubert, grandchildren Michael and his wife Lindsay Schubert, Lauren Schubert and Elisabeth Comune, as well as great-granddaughters, Kayla and Elliana Schubert. She is also survived by her sister-in-law and lifelong Middlesex neighbor, Joyce Comune, and many nieces and nephews.
Bette will forever be remembered for her unwavering love, her compassionate heart, and the countless lives she touched through her acts of kindness. May her vibrant spirit continue to inspire us all as we honor her memory and hold her dear in our hearts.
