Obituary of Roxie Bell Cummings

Roxie Bell (Brown) Cummings was born to Johnson Brown and Susie Mae Gilbert Brown on October 14, 1933, in Union Point, Georgia, where she was also raised. She had 12 siblings (eight brothers and four sisters). She fell asleep in death on July 1, 2023.

She was married to Wilker Cummings, Sr., for 51 years until his passing in 2000. In 1953, they left the segregated South and moved to Elizabeth, NJ, then later settled in Plainfield, NJ, to raise their growing family.

Baptized on January 29, 1966, she lived by her faith in Jehovah. As an auxiliary pioneer, she loved talking to others about Jehovah. She loved her family. She enjoyed spending time reminiscing about the old days. One of her favorite hobbies, as a young mother, was sewing. She was a skilled seamstress. In her earlier years, she took pride in making clothes for her children, drapes for the family home, and other sewing projects. Before her health declined, she was a frequent traveler and always seized any opportunity to do so.

As the family matriarch, Roxie was strong, a fighter until the end.  She will be sorely missed. She will live in the hearts of all who loved and cherished her.

She leaves behind 13 children: Betty Clarke (Sylvan) of Plainfield, NJ; Joanne Cummings Scott (Duane) of Springdale, MD; Noel Cummings, Sr. (Sheila) of Fishkill, NY; Francine Cummings of Missouri City, TX; Sharon Cummings of Plainfield, NJ; Wilker Cummings, Jr. (Lori) of Piscataway, NJ; Bonnie Cummings of Hillsborough, NJ; Van Cummings, Sr. of Easton, PA; Bruce Cummings (Loraine) of Athens, GA; Micah Cummings (Jukima) of Indianapolis, IN; Philip Cummings (Katrina) of Grayson, GA; Marqui Cummings of Burlington, NJ; and Deidre Cummings Strickland of Suwanee, GA).
