Obituary of Ruth W. Allen
Ruth W. Allen, aged 98, passed away peacefully on Friday, July 14, 2023, at Eastern Star Nursing Home in Bridgewater, New Jersey. Born and raised in Elizabeth, New Jersey, Ruth, alongside her husband, made a lifelong move to Watchung, New Jersey, in 1959. Their family home was nestled on a quiet gravel road, with only three other houses nearby, one of which was the welcoming home of Ruth's parents.
Ruth was a devoted homemaker, providing love and care for her three children and her husband. In addition to her homemaking, Ruth contributed to her community as a part-time worker at Bayberry School Library. Ruth was a cherished member of the Wilson Memorial Church in Watchung for many years, where her faith served as a guiding light, providing solace and strength throughout her life's joyous and challenging times.
Ruth had a passion for spending time at her lake house at Lake Wallenpaupack in Pennsylvania. This place held a special place in her heart, particularly during the Fourth of July celebrations when she would gather with friends and family. Known for her culinary talents, Ruth will be forever remembered for her delicious banana bread, which became a family favorite.
Ruth's passion for gardening blossomed throughout her lifetime. Her children fondly remember their young days helping her in the garden, a tradition that continued long after they had grown and left the home. Her garden thrived year after year, an enduring testament to Ruth's nurturing spirit.
She was predeceased by her loving husband, Robert Johnson Allen Sr., who passed away in 2006, and her cherished son, Robert Johnson Allen Jr., who passed away in 1976.
She is survived by her son, Richard D. Allen, her daughter, Jane A. Dunn, and her granddaughters, Jamie Dunn-Aguayo, and her husband, Oscar Aguayo Mayot, and Alanna Allen. Ruth's love for her family was boundless, especially for her grandchildren, whom she adored immensely.
A memorial service in honor of Ruth will be held on Tuesday, July 18, 2023, at 3:00 pm at the Wilson Memorial Union Church, 7 Valley Rd, Watchung, NJ 07069.
In memory of Ruth W. Allen, donations may be made to the Watchung Rescue Squad in lieu of flowers. Her memory will continue to thrive in the hearts of those who knew her, and her impact will be cherished in the many lives she touched.
