It is with heavy hearts that we bid farewell to Hongtao Liu, who passed away at the age of 84 on July 27, 2023. He leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and cherished memories that will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew him.
Hongtao was born on July 2, 1939, in Shijiazhuang, Hebei, China, and spent his formative years in the same city. He pursued his passion for physics at Peking University, where he graduated in 1965. Remaining dedicated to academia, Hongtao served as a professor at his alma mater until his retirement in 2002. In his 37 years of service, he shone brightly as a beacon of dedication and mentorship, leaving an indelible mark on the lives of countless students who held him in high admiration.
Throughout his life, Hongtao touched the hearts of many with his kindness, generosity, sense of humor, and unwavering determination. His impact on the lives of others will be remembered for generations to come.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Hongtao's devotion to his family was unwavering. He leaves behind his loving wife of 54 years, Baolian; Son, Yan, Daughter Hui, a daughter-in-law, Xiangrong, and a beloved granddaughter, Isabella. As a husband, father, and grandfather, his presence will be deeply missed.
In his quieter moments, Hongtao found solace in reading, listening to the Peking Opera, and exploring new places through travel.
The funeral to honor and celebrate the life of Hongtao Liu will be held on July 30, 2023, at Higgins Home for Funerals (752 Mountain Blvd. Watchung, NJ) from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm. Family and friends are invited to pay their respects and bid a final farewell to this extraordinary man.
