Obituary of Karl Hamer
In Loving Memory of Karl Hamer (1953-2023)
On September 3, 2023, at the age of 70, Karl Hamer passed away peacefully at his North Plainfield home, surrounded by his cherished children and grandchildren. Born on July 17, 1953, in Plainfield to Robert and Vivian Hamer, Karl spent his early years in Plainfield before settling in North Plainfield, where he remained a devoted resident.
As a young man, Karl's entrepreneurial spirit led him to establish Karl Hamer Contracting. He proudly served as its owner-operator until his well-deserved retirement in 2020.
Karl's heart was always with his family. He treasured the countless walks he shared with his wife, Linda. Together with their children, Cole and Jenna, the family embarked on day trips they lovingly termed "little adventures," showcasing Karl's passion for nature and the outdoors. Whether gardening at home, hiking, or taking these trips, he fully embraced the beauty of the world around him. The family's bond grew especially strong through these cherished memories, a bond they held even closer following Linda's passing in 2012.
A man of many passions, Karl was also an avid animal lover. Throughout his life, he cared for numerous pet cats and dogs, each of whom held a special place in his heart. His discipline was further exemplified in his study of martial arts. Achieving a black belt and specializing in Escrima—a Filipino martial art that focuses on stick fighting—speaks to his dedication and the immense discipline that such an accomplishment demands.
Karl was predeceased by his beloved wife, Linda D. Hamer.
He is survived by his son, Cole D. Hamer, and his wife, Alysa Weiss; his daughter, Jenna A. Hamer, and her husband, Edward Bulkilvish; four adored grandchildren: Tessa, Thea, and Briana Hamer, and Logan Bulkilvish; as well as his brother, Chris Hamer.
In honor of Karl's memory, donations can be made to the Plainfield Humane Society.
A memorial gathering will take place on Saturday, September 9, 2023, from 2 PM to 4 PM at the Higgins Home For Funerals, 752 Mountain Boulevard, Watchung, New Jersey 07069. A memorial service will follow at 4 PM. Cremation was private.
In these moments of remembrance, we celebrate Karl's legacy and the love and joy he brought to all who knew him.
