In Loving Memory of Arthur Monteiro Rosa

On the evening of Thursday, September 7, 2023,  Arthur Monteiro Rosa departed this life, surrounded by his loving family, at the age of 77. Born in the beautiful town of Boticas, Portugal, Arthur moved as a child to the vibrant Ironbound district in Newark, New Jersey. It was in this community that he forged his robust sense of belonging, he matured as an alumnus of East Side High School before advancing his academic pursuit at Jersey City State College.

After briefly dabbling in the world of education, Arthur joined the esteemed Western Electric Company. His prowess was undeniable as he ascended through the ranks in their public relations department. After honing his skills at a major corporation, Arthur partnered with his brothers, to found The Rosa Agency. From its modest inception in his garage in Newark, under his watchful eye, the firm flourished, extending its roots throughout New Jersey.

Arthur's dual pride of being both Portuguese and American shaped his commitment to his community. As a linchpin in the community, he was involved in community-based social and financial organizations. His active role in the Portuguese American Congress was outstanding, as was his distinction as the pioneering Portuguese-elected member of Newark's Board of Education. Arthur's love for his Portuguese heritage and his commitment to his community were immense. Throughout his life, his achievements were recognized in numerous awards and accolades by a number of institutions.

A staunch Catholic devotee, Arthur held an unwavering faith in Christ, with a particular devotion to Our Lady of Fatima. He also had a palpable interest in history, evident in the many stories steeped in the past that he loved to tell. In his prime, Arthur was a formidable and decorated athlete. In addition to being a Golden Gloves amateur boxer, Arthur led his high school and college soccer teams to high acclaim and was personally recognized for his role as a star midfielder. Despite all of his accomplishments, it was the many moments shared with his family that he cherished the most. 

He joins in eternal rest his parents Carlos and Carminda Rosa as well as, his siblings Antonio Rosa, Virginia Pereira, and Justino Rosa among other cherished family members.

Mourning his departure and celebrating his legacy are his devoted wife of 56 years, Ana Rosa; children Arthur Rosa, Lisa Ruane (Kevin), James Rosa (Daniela), Michael Rosa (Paula), and Kathleen Bubnowski (Dave); 14 beloved grandchildren; and siblings Ilidio Monteiro, Herminia Ferreira, Maria Ribeiro, Manuel Rosa, and Lidia Lehmann.

The Rosa family invites you to join them in a funeral mass on Wednesday, September 13, 2023, at 11 am at Our Lady of the Mount RC Church, 167 Mount Bethel Rd, Warren, NJ 07059.

In remembrance of Arthur's benevolent spirit, the family suggests that memorial donations may be forwarded to a charity close to your heart in lieu of flowers.
