Obituary of Nirmala S. Palekar

Nirmala S. Palekar, 88, passed away on Sunday, September 10, 2023. She was born in Jalgaon, India but spent most of her life in Mumbai, India, before emigrating to the United States in 1988. She lived with her oldest son and his family.

Nirmala was an ever-present force in her family. She was known for her passion for art—be it watercolors, sketching, or acrylic painting—as well as her love for cooking Indian meals and desserts.  Nirmala was active socially,  always communicating with her friends or out on the town in a beautifully planned outfit and coordinating jewelry. She was always on top of the news and Bollywood Soaps, not to mention the reigning champion in Rummikub. Her adventurous and humorous spirit will be missed greatly.

Nirmala’s legacy lives on through her two sons, Sadanand, and Udatta Palekar, as well as four grandchildren and one great-grandson. 

Family and friends are invited to pay their respects on Wednesday, September 13, 2023, from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Higgins Home for Funerals, 752 Mountain Blvd., Watchung, NJ.
