Bob Yankevicz will surely be remembered as a brave and heroic man, but that was his other life. We knew him as part of one of our favorite pair of houseguests, who we continually ask to stay longer. But no, they would sleep over just one night because they were on a mission to deliver something to Barbara's brother in VT or to help him in some way. During our evening conversations, Bob would set us laughing with funny quips that were out of the blue but right on the mark. Most memorable at dinner was the fact that he ate Margarethe's vegetables--a major concession from someone who sincerely disliked that food group. Bob was self-deprecating, leaving it to Barbara to talk about his firefighting exploits, his love of family gatherings at the beach and his devotion to the children in their extended family. What Bob did talk about was the men with whom he served in the Fire Department...the training and the jokes that they played. He didn't have to tell us that he loved Barbara; that was obvious.
