Obituary of Christine S. Alexis
Christine S. Alexis, age 56, passed away at her home in Bridgewater, New Jersey, on October 10, 2023. Born on February 11, 1967, in Plainfield, New Jersey, to Peter and Andoneia, she was raised in Watchung before living in Bedminster and eventually settling in Bridgewater.
A proud alumna of Watchung Hills Regional High School, Tenie, as she was known her entire life by her family and friends, furthered her education at the University of South Carolina, where she graduated with a degree in business administration. She added two graduate degrees, an MBA and a Master's in Taxation, while working at Seton Hall University.
She began her professional life in the investment business, but moved into the field of education in her late twenties, serving first as a cheerleading coach in Somerset Hills and a substitute teacher at her alma mater and later as a high school math teacher in Middletown and Cedar Grove. Her astute sense for numbers and investments led her back into the business world and a role as a senior tax analyst at Verizon Wireless in Bedminster, where she worked for over 18 years before retiring in 2018.
Having spent summers in Mantoloking with her family as a child, Tenie loved the Jersey Shore and passed down her passion for it to her nephew and nieces. She found peace and serenity by the ocean and enjoyed hiking trips to the national parks out west.
Her greatest source of joy was her family, and her selfless devotion was unlimited. She was her mother’s caretaker for years and an incredibly generous sister and sister-in-law. But the sun rose and set on her nephew and two nieces, who adored her and whom she loved unconditionally.
Tenie was predeceased by her father, Peter G. Alexis, in 1982.
She is survived by her loving family; her mother, Andoneia Alexis; her brother, George, and his wife, Loren; her nephew, Peter; and her nieces, Caroline and Emma.
She leaves behind a legacy of love and selflessness. Her family and friends will carry forward beautiful memories of Tenie’s warmth, kindness, and sense of humor.
A memorial visitation will be held on Friday, October 20, 2023, from 3:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., at Higgins Home for Funerals, 752 Mountain Blvd., Watchung, NJ. A memorial service will follow at the funeral home, commencing at 4:30 p.m.
