On 11 October 2023, Klári Kiss, a very smart and sensitive relative, passed away forever.
She lived ninety-three vibrant, eventful and valuable years. May her soul rest in peace!
We have many very positive memories of her: she hosted two of us in 1978 and our son three decades later.
She showed complete spiritual freshness in a letter on 19 June this year. She wrote this: "I try to accept the present situation gracefully."
We remember Klári Kiss with great respect and much love. We will treasure her memory.

I had the chance of being in Klári's,- as we always called her - company in spite of the great distance that separated us.She often came to Budapest and I regularly saw her at family events. I remember that she was always very elegant, even if we just met for an ice cream and a little walk, she was dressed as if she was going to the Opera. That always amazed me as a child. But she was a lot more than just elegance, she was very curious about me and everyone else. Every time we met or exchanged an e-mail, she always asked me about shcool and later work, about my hobies and my travels and I could really feel that she was genuinely interested how my life was going..She was also very kind and generous. When I travelled to New York 10 years ago and we met downtown she told me about all of her activities that she had, and explaned which were her favourite museims and which ones she didn't like..I was in awe of how actively she lived her life. And the following year she came to Paris when her book was published and we could spend some more time together. Unfortunately I didn't have direct contact with her after the fire but I will always remember her as the smiling, kind, sensitive and generous person that she was. She will be greatly missed. Nyugodj békében Klári.

It is with an intense sadness that I attempt to express my condolences for the passing of a dear friend and a perpetually optimistic colleague Dr. Klara Kiss (10/29/1930 - 10/11/2023).
Klara’s technical life at Stauffer and Akzo Nobel research was constantly filled with the joy of exploring new technologies, publishing and offering applicable contributions to the projects of so many of her colleagues. She enthusiastically contributed to a wide range of sciences from advanced polymer catalysis to consumer hair care products. She was always ready to help her colleagues when ever possible and offered sound technical advice. Each day was a new opportunity for Klara to refine her specialty skills and assist others in an endless drive for improvement.
Her life before us at Stauffer was even more remarkable. She, as a young child, narrowly escaped the World War II Holocaust in Hungary and proudly published her accounts of this life threatening, horrifying experience. She shared her energetic march through life with all her colleagues and especially her family of which she was so proud, particularly the two grandchildren and the great grandson so far. She was married for over 30 years to Kornel Kiss, the father of her two children. After Kornel passed, she married George Curtis.
Then tragedy hit Klara’s home in Yonkers with an early am electrical fire in their bedroom. She was severely burned but survived, George was not so lucky and woefully perished. On two occasions I visited Klara at the Albert Einstein Burn Center in the Bronx where she started on the long road toward recovery. Her special internal strength was called upon again to pull her through. In time, with the guidance of her son Gabor and daughter Agi, she was moved to Brandywine Assisted Living in Watchung NJ. There she could spend her last days close to her family.
Now after such a long journey, she may rest in peace.
With affectionate regards and the highest respect, I bid you farewell

Klara inspired, loved, shared, and sacrificed with a pure, kind heart and a fantastic imagination mixed with realistic expectations and passion for all things beautiful. I am grateful for all she shared with me and, through that, my family. May she rest in peace with her father, mother, grandparents, sister, brother, many aunts, uncles, cousins, friends, and the loves of her life, Kornel and George. May they all celebrate her joining them in heaven as we mourn her earthly loss. I have so much to be thankful for from Klara and to God, who brought us together back in 2012. We met as she enrolled in a class to help her write her memoir and I was fortunate to witness her herculean efforts to document her life for her family and then, even more, to celebrate her success of being published and honored in France. The picture below shows her and I enjoying lunch in Grand Central Station when we met to celebrate the great news of her book's publishing. Later, we had a party for her birthday after she returned from France and she told me it was one of the nicest birthdays she ever had. I was honored to have her as a friend, inspiration, and guide. And, I will miss her even though I know, it was her time to go and she is happier now having returned to her father, family, husbands, and friends whom she has yearned for too long to be with again.

Dear All,
Klári was a very special person for us. She was beautiful, intelligent and had a golden heart! She has often helped our family, and looked at it, as a natural gesture of hers. We had long conversations about family and our lives, that we have both enjoyed. She has shared with me her past history of the Holocaust and her writings about it were special. Her book about her thrilling escape of Fashists in Ujpest was published in France. For an ever young person, it was certainly not easy, being forced to retire or loose Kornél, who was her Love forever! They both were intelligent, loving people! She has managed to adapt, accept her losses and created new ambitions.
It was the fire accident in her home, that changed her active life forever. She has tried to accept this new turn of her life. Luckily her children, Gábor and Ági tried their best to make her life meaningful.
We will remember her with gratitude and LOVE!
