Obituary of Millie Velez
In Loving Memory: Milagro “Millie” Velez (1973-2023)
With heavy hearts yet warmed by the beautiful memories she left behind, we commemorate the life of Milagro “Millie” Velez, who departed from this world at the tender age of 50 on Thursday, October 12, 2023. Surrounded by the love of family and friends, she found peace at the Center for Hope Hospice in Scotch Plains.
Plainfield was the cradle of her early days. Life's tumultuous currents led her to Howell, NJ, but the comforting anchor of her sister, Teresa, drew her back to North Plainfield after the tragic loss of their mother. Their bond, tempered by shared trials and memories, remained unbreakable. Eventually, the tranquil aura of Frenchtown beckoned Millie, where she lived for 13 cherished years.
Professionally, Millie's acumen as a risk analyst shone brightly at Chubb Insurance Company in Branchburg. Her unparalleled commitment did not go unnoticed, leading Munich Reinsurance America to seek out her expertise. There, she rose through the ranks, earning her place as one of their most esteemed analysts for over a decade.
Beyond her career, Millie nurtured a soul rich in passions. The rustic charm of antiques, the fresh produce at local farmer’s markets, and the joy of immersing herself in a good book colored her days. But it was her adventures across the globe, from the cobbled streets of Scotland, France, and England, that truly ignited her spirit. However, it was the treasured journeys with her sister and family that Millie held dearest, especially their magical escapades to Disney World during the festive season.
Her radiant love for her three nieces, Ava, Giuliana, and Olivia, was evident to anyone who met her. To Millie, they weren’t just family; they were her world.
As we remember Millie, our thoughts are with her devoted sister, Teresa Maillaro and her husband James, her cherished nieces, and the close-knit circle of cousins, whom Millie lovingly regarded as sisters. She also leaves behind a constellation of extended family and friends, whose lives she touched with her grace and warmth.
A tribute to her life will be held on Wednesday from 4 to 8 pm at the Higgins Home for Funerals, 752 Mountain Blvd., Watchung, NJ 07069. A solemn graveside service will follow at the Chapel at Holy Redeemer Cemetery in South Plainfield.
In Millie’s memory, let’s cherish the bonds we hold dear and celebrate the beauty of every fleeting moment. She taught us that, in life, it is these connections and memories that truly matter.
