Obituary of Salvatore Scavuzzo
It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Salvatore Scavuzzo, who departed this life peacefully at his residence on Saturday, October 21, 2023. Born in Castelvetrano, Sicily, Italy, Salvatore spent his formative years in Brooklyn, New York after moving there at the age of nine. Later, he lived in Newark and Union, New Jersey, finally settling in Warren, New Jersey in 1990.
A diligent and dedicated individual, Salvatore served as a production manager at The Newark Group, a binding company in Newark, for an impressive 35 years. His commitment to excellence was not just limited to his profession; he was also an impeccable craftsman at home. A perfectionist at heart, Salvatore took immense pride in landscaping and gardening. His woodworking skills were showcased in the intricate wood trim around his house, a testament to his unparalleled attention to detail.
In 1980, Salvatore married his beloved Angelica DiMaria, having been introduced by a family friend. Their bond was strong, and together they became members of Our Lady of the Mount Roman Catholic Church in Warren. Serving as a fourth-degree knight with the Father Russel Council 11409, Salvatore's faith was a guiding force in his life.
Above all, Salvatore was a family man. The joy of his life was spending cherished moments with his nieces and nephews, especially with his goddaughter Julia, who was truly the apple of his eye. Every holiday, family members eagerly awaited Salvatore's signature Italian cookies, a sweet gesture of his affection. He was also the proud original owner of a 1976 Buick Limited, often showcasing it at car shows, a testament to his meticulous nature and passion.
Salvatore is predeceased by his parents, Vincenzo and Antoinette, his sister, Vincenza, and her husband, Frank, and brother, Joseph, and his wife, Lena.
Salvatore leaves behind his loving wife, Angelica Scavuzzo; his brother, Paul Scavuzzo, and his wife, Giovanna; and several dear nieces and nephews who will deeply miss his warmth and guidance.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 24, from 2 PM to 5 PM at Higgins Home For Funerals, 752 Mountain Boulevard, Watchung, New Jersey 07069. A Mass will be held on Wednesday, October 25 at 10:15 AM at Our Lady of the Mount Church, 170 Mount Bethel Rd., Warren, NJ. This will be followed by an entombment at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in East Hanover, New Jersey.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Salvatore's honor may be made to the Center for Hope Hospice, Saint Jude's Children’s Research Hospital, Shriners Children’s Hospital, or a charity of your choice.
