Obituary of Janet Mary Lariviere
Janet Mary Lariviere, cherished wife, mother, grandmother, and sister, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her devoted husband and children, on October 24, 2023, at her home on Lake Lancer, Michigan. Born on March 12, 1946, in Grosse Pointe Farms, Michigan, to William & Mildred Peitz, Janet's early life was deeply rooted in Detroit and a large, loving family of seven siblings. It was love at first sight when she met John Quaine Lariviere while both attending Servite High School, and soon after were joined together in a marriage that flourished for 57 years. Together, their journey of life led them to New Jersey in 1979, where they first established a home in Berkeley Heights and later in Warren, before settling in Gladwin, Michigan, in 2020.
After lovingly raising eight children and managing a very busy household, Janet’s professionalism and organizational skills were later applied working as the office manager at Hillsborough Pediatrics in Hillsborough, New Jersey, for a span of 15 years. Deeply spiritual, she was a member of the People of Hope Community for over 30 years, where she built a lifetime of cherished friendships. She was devoted in her Catholic faith as a parishioner of St. Mary's Stony Hill Church in Watchung, New Jersey, for two decades, and more recently, found a spiritual home at Sacred Heart Church in Gladwin, Michigan.
Janet had a penchant for the simple joys of life. She enjoyed the heartwarming narratives of Hallmark movies and, most especially, the opportunity to bring her family together for rowdy gatherings, featuring her dinner specialties, beloved by all. Janet's love for family, her zest for life, and her warm heart made every moment with her special.
Janet was predeceased by her dear sisters, Donna, Audrey, and Carole, and her parents, William & Mildred Peitz.
She leaves behind an enduring legacy in her loving husband, John Q Lariviere; her eight children: John (Frances), Scott (Ildiko), Aimee (Mike), Nicole (Brett), Melissa (Wim), Joseph (Dori), Michael (Katie), and Mary (Mark); 25 grandchildren who will cherish her memories; and siblings Marilyn, Ilene, Joanne, William, and John.
Visitation will be held on Friday, November 3, 2023, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Higgins Home For Funerals, 752 Mountain Blvd., Watchung, NJ 07069. A funeral mass will be celebrated on Saturday, November 4, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary's Stony Hill Church, 225 Mountain Blvd., Watchung, NJ 07069. This will be followed by entombment at St. Mary's Stony Hill Cemetery.
Janet's life was a testament to love, resilience, and faith. She will be deeply missed, but her spirit will continue to guide and inspire all those who were blessed to know her.
