Ed has been a great friend for the past 66 years and I sure will miss him. We met at U of Florida when we were starting our work for a PhD. We both worked for Dr. Thomas Lippincott and eventually ended up as roommates. During later years we have travelled the world with our spouses and have had many mutual visits together. While many knew Ed as a person of great intellect and achievement, I knew him also as a funny, down-to-earth friend and confidante. Having Known Ed has been one of the best things in my life.

Ed was as "giant" not only in Exxonmobil Chemical, but in the field off Elastomer Science & Tecnology. He was the paradigm "Chief Scientist", one who was always looking for ways to add value to the company through science.. He had an uncanny "eye" for what was important However, he did not tolerate "sloppy thinking". You had best hone your arguments when debating any topic with Ed. On the flip side, he was a wonderful mentor and colleague. He was also a persuasive recruiter. I thank him for recruiting me. I am grateful for the chances that I had to interact with him not only at Exxon but also at Gordon Research Conferences and ACS boards. We even car-pooled to work for a year. During that time, I learned how wide and deep were his interests. Ed was cleary a remarkable man!
We extend our deepest condolences to Delores, John and Susan onthe passing of their husband and father. We pray for your peace and comfort at this time of sorrow and loss..

For a generation a young hopeful scientists who entered the hallowed grounds of the Linden Technology Center of Esso and later Exxon Corporation, Ed Kresge was the bright beacon of good science, astute management and an affable personality. He made it his business to understand each of us and was quick to judge and walk away from things that did pass his standards. He cherished intellect and application and had an amazing ability to attract and to retain the talent he recognized. He had crystal clear vison, unsullied by contrary doubts, of what he wanted to accomplish. We, the fortunate ones, prospered and came to our maturity under his profound tutelage and gentle guidance. To say we will miss him is redundant because he was one of a kind.

Ed was a dear friend to me as is his wife Dolores. Ed's passing away is a big loss.
Ed hired me at Exxon in Linden NJ and was my first boss for a number of years. We went through many work and friendship experiences together during the years that we knew each other, at work and outside of work.
Ed was a very active participent in many Exxon Chemical projects and activites and his fingerprints can be found in many of the advances that were made.
Sincere condolences to the family.
