Quite by fate I learned of the passing of Mrs. Farnsworth today. Back in the early 1960s we were all in her Home Economics class; I was perhaps in her first year class when she started teaching in Berkeley Heights, NJ. Among my sisters we were recently reminiscing about her class: learning to sew and to make simple meals. We all remember practicing our sewing on lined paper and making the infamous spiral, learning our various seams and making our first garment AND wearing it to school at least twice! She had such a profound effect on all four of us and years later when we needed to make shorts for summer camp, we set up a "sweat shop" in the basement and each of us had an assignment. I was responsible for the fly-zippers, Teri set on the waist-band, Wendy handled the major seams and Holly cut out 19 pairs of short in the period of four days. We laughed and giggled throughout the process and assured ourselves Carolyn would have been so proud of us. Recently we discussed the cooking lessons she taught us and the habits we continue to use. Her obituary is beautiful because it summarizes her life well-lived. Please accept our belated condolences and know that "Mrs. Farnsworth's" legacy lives on through the thousands of lives she touched.
Linda, Teri, Wendy and Holly Duke

Although we’ve only known Carolyn a few short years we throughly enjoyed her pleasant and happy demeanor. She was such a joy to be around and always had a beautiful smile for us when we visited Joyce & Scott. When Carolyn moved in with the Cornelia’s she was in very excellent hands. Both Joyce and Scott tended to her every need with love and affection. She will be truly missed. Bill & Donna McLernon

My memories of "Ma" go back 55+ years. I vividly recall traveling in the VW van and Ma and Joyce singing Girl Scout songs. I wasn't a GS myself, didn't know many of those songs, but it didn't matter. Their joy, love, and laughter enveloped me as well and it has always been a blessing to be 'one of their own.'
I am in awe of Joyce and Scott's devotion to Carolyn, and Scott's mother Norma, as they lovingly cared for them throughout their Senior years. I know they feel just as blessed, but they were truly the hands and feet of Jesus as they honored their mothers until Jesus welcomed them each home. I love you Sweeties! God Bless you Ma.

The last time I saw Carolyn Farnsworth was when we were visiting Scotch Plains and since i was a breast cancer survivor, I wanted to give Joyce and family and HUG and more HUGS along with positive outlooks and just plain joy to my 2nd daughter, Joyce.
It happened to be the day that Joyce was beginning to lose her hair and was considering shaving her hair and just get it over with, or buy a wig.. Don't remember the decision being made that day, but it was a day of both joy and sadness that our family shared.
Didn't know Carolyn well, except that she was Joyce's Mom and that put her immediately in "my friend" category.
I'll miss my friend Carolyn and my heart is filled with love and sympathy for both Joyce and Scott.
Joyce and Scott took care of both of their Mom's and did it with unselfish love and caring. The best kids any Mom could have.

Ma was a wonderful lady, she was my 2nd mother. I will remember her wonderful laugh, her smile and her love. She got me interested in crafting. I love you Ma.

Cal lived an incredibly full life and touched so many along the way.
I remember all the times we were silly and laughed out loud.
I remember how much she loved all of us without question.
Thank you Cal for everything and thank you to her family for sharing her.
Love, Laurie
