Albert Latschar

Obituary of Albert William Latschar

Albert William Latschar, age 88, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on November 23, 2023.  Albert was born in Old Bridge, New Jersey to Albert and Madeline Latschar.  He attended New Brunswick High School where he met the love of his life, Joyce Fahrenholz.  Albert (Al) and Joyce were married on July 10, 1954.  Following High School, he attended Rutgers University, majoring in Agriculture.  While at Rutgers, he developed an interest in veterinary medicine.  He was accepted into Cornell University, where he graduated at the top of his class with a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree.

Albert opened his first Veterinary Practice in Plainfield, NJ.  With his excellent veterinary skill and compassionate heart for his furry patients as well as their caring owners, his practice grew to eventually include two partners.  Albert, or    “Dr. Latschar” as he was known by his patients,  practiced veterinary medicine for many years, at several animal hospitals in New Jersey.

There was one thing Albert loved more than veterinary medicine, and that was his family.  He was devoted to his wife, Joyce,  who was truly the love of his life, and his four daughters, whom he called his “sissy girls.”  He was a loving, caring husband and father and his family adored him.

Albert loved the Lord.  He gave his life to the Lord Jesus Christ at the age of 35 and served as an associate pastor at the First Christian Assembly in Plainfield, New Jersey for a number of years.  He was an avid runner, maintaining a rigorous 7-mile daily run long before “jogging” became a popular activity.  He and his fellow runners from the YMCA called themselves “The Plainfield Road Runners.”

He leaves behind his beloved wife, Joyce R. Latschar (née Fahrenholz), and daughters Sandy McDowell (Marty), Lauren Anderson (Chuck), Traci Selody (Todd), Jodi Kopecky (Jon); His sister, Helen Renk (John), 14 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, November 30, from 6 to 8 PM at Higgins Home For Funerals, 752 Mountain Blvd., Watchung, NJ 07069.  A funeral service is scheduled for Saturday, December 2, at 10 AM at the same location, followed by interment at Hillside Cemetery in Scotch Plains, New Jersey.
