Obituary of Mario Philip Blasi
With profound sadness and loving memories, we announce the peaceful passing of Mario Philip Blasi on November 29, 2023, at the age of 98. Surrounded by his family in his Warren, New Jersey home, Mario departed, leaving behind a legacy of love, dedication, and service.
Born to Anthony and Carrie Blasi on August 23, 1925, in Newark, New Jersey, Mario's journey was one of remarkable achievement and unwavering commitment. A true son of Newark, Mario's roots ran deep in the community, having lived in Montclair, East Orange, Millburn, and finally Warren, New Jersey. A proud graduate of West Side High School in Newark, his early years were marked by a dedication to education and athletics.
Mario's love for his country was evident in his honorable service in the United States Army during World War II. Utilizing the G.I. Bill, he continued his education at Bloomfield College, where his athletic prowess shone, excelling in football, basketball, and baseball, and earning the title of “Outstanding Athlete of the Year” in his graduating class of 1950. His pursuit of knowledge led him to Seton Hall University for his BA and then to Columbia University for his master's in education.
His professional life was a testament to his dedication to learning and physical health. Mario began his career in education at his alma mater, West Side High School. For 42 years, he served the Newark Board of Education and the Archdiocese of Newark as a beloved physical education instructor, impacting countless lives.
Mario's passions extended beyond his professional life. He was an avid traveler, especially enjoying trips to Europe with his family. A skilled contractor, he took pride in enhancing his home, notably installing all the crown molding himself.
Above all, Mario's world revolved around his beloved wife, Audrey. Their love was a beacon of devotion, and although Audrey predeceased him in 2012, their bond remains an inspiration to all who knew them.
Mario leaves behind a loving family: his son, Bryan, and his wife Gretchen, and his cherished grandchildren, Jessica and Justin. He leaves behind his daughter Robin Galiotti as well.
He was predeceased by his loving daughter, Valerie Blasi, in 2018, and by his beloved wife of 56 years, Audrey Edna Blasi, in 2012.
Mario's life was a beautiful tapestry of service, love, and family. As we bid farewell to this remarkable man, we celebrate the profound impact he had on everyone he touched. He will be deeply missed but forever remembered in the hearts of his family, friends, and community.
