Obituary of Rui André Nogueira

We regretfully announce the untimely passing of Rui André Nogueira, who left us unexpectedly at the young age of 35. Rui was a beacon of joy, kindness, and unwavering enthusiasm for life, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and heartfelt memories.

Born in Coimbra, Portugal, Rui's journey began with a move to the United States during his infancy, where his family initially settled in Newark, New Jersey. His formative years saw him moving to Hillside, then to Warren, New Jersey, with his most recent years spent in Asbury, New Jersey. A proud graduate of Watchung Hills Regional High School, Rui's academic journey was just the beginning of a life marked by dedication and passion.

Following high school, Rui embarked on a career alongside his father in the family's construction company. Under his father's mentorship, Rui's work ethic, talent, and enthusiasm for his craft flourished. His dedication and skill eventually led him to a cherished position with the Laborers' International Union of North America (LiUNA) Local 472, where he took great pride in his work and contributions.

Rui's zest for life extended beyond his professional endeavors. An ardent supporter of the Portuguese national soccer team, and Sporting CP. His passion for soccer was paralleled by his love for playing the sport, during his high school years. Rui's love for outdoor activities, especially barbecuing, playing volleyball, setting off fireworks and traveling, brought joy not only to him but to all who were lucky enough to join him. His sense of humor, spontaneous nature, and unmistakable lack of filter, always delivered with kindness and a welcoming hug, made every encounter with Rui a memorable one.

Rui's heart was as big as his smile, and his recent trip to Portugal was a testament to his capacity for love. There, he got engaged to Maria J. Navarro, and together they joyfully anticipated the arrival of their first child, a boy, symbolizing a new chapter full of hopes and dreams.

Rui leaves behind a loving family: his fiancée, Maria J. Navarro; his son André Nogueira; his parents, Ana C. Nogueira and Rui Nogueira; his brothers, Michael and David; his grandparents, Maria, Alberto Ferreira, and Mariazinha Nogueira; his three dear friends, Shawn, Mike, and TeeBee, whom he considered brothers; and his beloved French bulldog, Mateo.

In memory of Rui's vibrant spirit, the family suggests that contributions be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

A visitation to honor and celebrate Rui's life will be held on Saturday, February 17, 2024, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Higgins Home For Funerals, 752 Mountain Blvd., Watchung, NJ 07069. Where friends and family will gather to remember a life so beautifully lived and a soul so profoundly missed.

In Rui's memory, let us cherish the moments, embrace our loved ones a little tighter, and live with the passion and joy he exemplified every day.
