Ann Gore

Obituary of Ann Gore

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Ann Gore, who left us peacefully on February 19, 2024, at the age of 87. Ann departed this life at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in Somerville, embraced by the love of her family and the memories of a life richly lived.

Ann was born April 8, 1936, in Pidcock, Georgia, to Charlie and Rose Lee Collier, Ann's early years were spent in Cross City, Florida. She later made her way north to New Jersey, where she established deep roots—first in Newark for a decade and then in Plainfield, her home for over 54 years.

A graduate of Valdosta High School, in GA, Ann furthered her education at Beauty Culture School in Newark NJ, embracing a passion for beauty and care. Her career was marked by a profound love for children and a commitment to service, characteristics that defined her 40 years with the Plainfield Board of Education as a cherished lunch aid. Ann's dedication continued with the Morris-Union Jointure Commission, where she served as a bus attendant for 23 years until her retirement.

Faith played a significant role in Ann's life, having been a member of the Fountain Baptist Church and later, the Community Baptist Church. Her spirit was one of joy and generosity, often seen in one of her favorite stores... Unique thrift shop where she sought out treasures with keen eyes. Ann's home was a museum of her finds, from a vast collection of angels to the treasured pictures of celebrities, including her beloved Marvin Gaye. She loved jewelry, red hats, cooking, baking, and feeding the neighborhood.  Her favorite color was red. She was always dressed in layers of clothes including at least five pairs of socks.

Ann's zest for life extended to her culinary adventures, enjoying good meals and snacks, and piling everything on ONE plate! However, her greatest joy was spending time with her family, a sprawling and loving network that spanned five generations. Ann's love for family gossip and gatherings will be fondly remembered and deeply missed.

Predeceased by her husband, Ralph J. Gore, daughters, Darriel Martin and Betty Gore-Grimes, and her sister, Charlie Mae Williams.

Ann's legacy lives on through her children, Jeremiah Hodge, Renee Sanderson, Dana Gore-Nelson, and Ethel Gore Daniels; (Special daughter-in-law, Josephine Hodge); Thirteen grandchildren, Ay-Yana Gore-Nelson, Takeerah Lawrence, Rose Lee Carson, Hakima Lamour, Bilquis Martin, Amir Martin, Franklin Nicholas, Lamont Grimes, Floyd Grimes, Leary Tomlin, Sylvester Anderson, Charlene Myers, Darlene Walden; 24 Great-grandchildren, Keon, Miyami, Kiara, Tricity, Shanesia, Yateesha, Donald Jr., Darrius, Artavia, Frinnis Jr., Jayden, Jamir, Shamira, Amir Jr., Sharmir, Dasha, Gabrielle, Greyson, Fuschia, T'Keya, Malik, Stephon, Meme, and Taken; & Ten Great-great-grandchildren;  her one and only younger brother, Arthur Lee Collier, whom she treated like her son; best friend, Jessie Mae Boardley, special nephew, Herman Hodge; nephew, Charles Williams; her four nieces, Barbara Ann Gelsey, Patricia Williams, Gwen Williams, & Candice Collier; and a multitude of friends.
