Obituary of John Arthur Pompey
John Arthur Pompey, age 66, passed away on March 5th, 2024, in San Antonio, Texas, with loved ones by his side.
John was born on July 4th, 1957, in Manning, South Carolina, later moving to Troy, New York with the rest of his family. After graduating from high school and having various jobs in between, John enlisted in the military. He served over 20 years in the Navy before retiring as an E-8 Senior Chief Petty Officer in 2017.
John was the definition of “Jack of all Trades.” From cooking, fishing, gardening, sports, fashion, cars and much more. The list could go on for miles. Those who were able to experience him knew that he was never afraid to speak his mind. If there was something he wanted you know, best believe you would hear it. Throughout his 66 years of life, he has been a light in so many lives and he will be missed dearly.
John is predeceased in death by his mother, Mary Dixon; his wife Karen Pompey, who unexpectedly passed away in 2022; his brothers, Jimmie Lee Pompey, and James Edward “Ted” Pompey, who sadly passed just 2 days prior to John’s transition.
John is survived by his sons; Malcolm Holmes (spouse Jennifer Holmes) Nashville, NC, and John Pompey, Jr., Selma, TX; his daughters, Kimberly Pompey, Selma, TX, Whitni Gray, Savannah, GA, and Brittni Gray Lewis (spouse LaTroy Lewis) Jacksonville, FL, his sisters, Melva “Jennie” Dixon, Bethlehem, PA, and Renee Russell, (spouse Jason Russell) Chesterfield, VA, and sister-in-law, Tanya Pompey. He also leaves behind grandchildren; Princess Holmes, Malcolm Holmes JR “MJ”, and Xander Kyaire Ayers, and many more family and friends.
A visitation will be held to celebrate John's life on Friday, March 15, 2024, from 2 to 3 p.m., at Higgins Home for Funerals, 752 Mountain Blvd., Watchung, NJ. A funeral service will follow commencing at 3:00 p.m. He will be laid to rest on Monday, March 18, 2024, at Washington Crossing National Cemetery, 830 Highland Road, Newtown, PA.
