Obituary of Thomas J. Robe
Thomas Joseph Robe, aged 88, of Bridgewater, NJ, passed into eternal rest on March 19, 2024, at RWJ Hospital, Somerville. A native of Jersey City, Thomas spent his formative years in Kenilworth, later residing in Union before making Bridgewater his home for the past 46 years.
Thomas was an alumnus of NJIT, known during his time as the Newark College of Engineering, where he obtained his bachelor's and master’s degrees in Electrical Engineering. He was a dedicated ROTC member, which led to a distinguished three-year service in the U.S. Air Force as a 1st Lieutenant in Panama City, Florida.
After serving his country, he returned back to New Jersey to begin his professional journey embarking on a fulfilling career in electrical engineering with RCA and eventually retiring from Telcordia in Morristown after over forty years of service.
During his noted career, Thomas was the recipient of many electrical engineering awards, authored numerous articles, and he was also responsible for 8 US patents.
An enthusiast of the outdoors, Thomas found joy in walking and golf, playing regularly in the RCA golf league. His hobbies included reading and sharing memorable vacations with his family. Above all, celebrating the achievements of his grandchildren brought him immense joy.
Thomas, a devout congregant of Blessed Sacrament Church in Martinsville, was predeceased by his twin brother, Edward.
His legacy lives on through his beloved wife, Carol Robe, to whom he was married for 66 years; his children, Thomas H. Robe (Laurie), Steven J. Robe (Jennifer), and Susan C. Buckley; and his cherished grandchildren, Alyssa, Paul, Benjamin, Meredith, Dana, and Kayla. He is also survived by his brother, Robert Robe, and sister, Marjorie Davenport (Edward), as well as a loving extended family and many friends.
Family and friends are invited to gather for visitation on Sunday, March 24, 2024, from 1 to 4 p.m., at Higgins Home for Funerals, 752 Mountain Blvd., Watchung, NJ. A funeral mass will be celebrated on Monday at 10 a.m. at the Blessed Sacrament R.C. Church in Martinsville, NJ, with the final committal at Holy Cross Cemetery, Basking Ridge. In memory of Thomas, donations may be made to the American Heart Association.
