Obituary of William G. Malthaner
William G. Malthaner (Bill), who nearly reached the milestone of 90 years, passed away on April 3rd, 2024, at home surrounded by family. Born in Newark, Bill spent a brief time in Irvington before making Union his home. In 1961, he settled in Warren, where he would spend the remainder of his life.
Bill's journey took a pivotal turn in 1953 when he was drafted into the United States Air Force, serving in Germany as a radar technician for three years. It was in Germany that he met his beloved Theresia, marking the beginning of a lifelong love story that would span more than six decades, nearly reaching their 66th anniversary.
After his military service, Bill resumed his education in trade school, leading to a distinguished career as an electrician with the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local #52. His commitment to his profession was evident in his role as president of Local #52, ultimately becoming the last president before its merger with Local #164 in Paramus. Bill's professional legacy includes his contributions to significant projects across the metropolitan area, proudly commemorated by a 70-year service pin.
Beyond his professional life, Bill found solace and joy in tending to his expansive yard, embodying his love for nature and manual work. Even as his health declined, his fondness for his yard and outdoors remained. Bill also cherished his Sunday morning golf sessions, embracing the serenity of nature.
Family was the cornerstone of Bill's life; with Theresia, he shared a bond that transcended time, enjoying simple pleasures like home improvements, electrical projects, and trips to Pennsylvania or Atlantic City.
Bill's legacy is carried on by his loving wife Theresia, his sons William G. Malthaner Jr. (and wife Caren) and James Henry Malthaner, his sister Ruth Wilcox, and niece Karen Gareis-Murry.
