Virginia Lakatos

Obituary of Virginia Lakatos

Virginia Lakatos, aged 79, passed away suddenly at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Somerset in Somerville, New Jersey. Born in Teaneck, New Jersey, on April 3, 1945, to Joseph and Teresa Blank, Ginny's journey through life was marked by love, creativity, and devotion.

Raised in Scotch Plains and having lived across various cherished locations, including Gillette, Pickerington, Ohio, and finally Warren, New Jersey since 1979, Ginny's roots and connections ran deep in each community. She was a proud graduate of Scotch Plains/Fanwood High School. Ginny began her early career at Chubb and Sons where fate would charmingly intertwine her path with Joseph Lakatos, a young underwriter with a Corvette Stingray convertible. Their ensuing romance, leading to marriage in 1965, was paralleled sweetly by Ginny's sister, Barbara, marrying Joseph’s brother, Steve, creating an inseparable family bond.

Ginny's life was enriched by the birth of her children, which led her to embrace the role of a stay-at-home mother with grace and dedication. Her journey continued back into the professional realm at Rutgers University and later at Warren Middle School, where she served with distinction as the Secretary to the Principal until her retirement in 2015.

A devout member of Our Lady of the Mount Roman Catholic Church in Warren, New Jersey, Ginny's faith was a cornerstone of her life. Her artistic spirit flourished in hobbies like counted cross-stitch, needlepoint, sewing, and quilting, with her talents celebrated in groups like the Pieced Together Quilters. While in Ohio she was president of the Garden Club of the local civic association.

Ginny found joy in life’s simple pleasures, from swimming to movie nights, every Friday's ritual of films and popcorn, to shared moments of learning and discovery watching Jeopardy and Antique Roadshow with her beloved husband.

Above all, Ginny cherished time with her family, leaving behind a legacy of love and cherished memories with her husband, Joseph, her children, Christopher and wife, Kristen Lakatos, and Elizabeth and husband, John Powers; her three adored grandchildren, Shannon Lakatos, Ryan Lakatos, and Paige Powers; her siblings, Barbara and husband, Steve Lakatos, Larry and wife, Kathy Blank, and Patricia Twaite; and her 4 nieces.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 17, from 4 PM to 8 PM at Higgins Home For Funerals, 752 Mount Blvd., Watchung, NJ 07069. A funeral mass is scheduled for Thursday, April 18, at 11 AM at Our Lady of the Mount Chapel, 167 Mount Bethel Rd., Warren, NJ 07059. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery in Basking Ridge.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Pieced Together Quilters, P.O. Box 8097, Bridgewater, NJ  08807 as a tribute to Virginia's artistic legacy and community spirit. Ginny's life was a beautiful tapestry of love, art, and devotion, deeply woven into the hearts of all who knew her.
