Obituary of Henry de Vera
It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Enrico "Henry" de Vera, aged 72, on Saturday, April 13, 2024, at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Somerset in Somerville, New Jersey. Born in Lucena, Philippines, to Manuel de Vera and Angeles Ramos, Henry’s vibrant spirit and generous heart touched all who knew him.
Henry grew up in the Philippines, where he met his childhood sweetheart and future wife, Nancy. Their love story began in the halls of their school and lasted until her passing in 2018. Henry graduated with a degree in finance from San Beda College in Manila. In 1978 he emigrated to the United States, initially residing in Walnut Creek, California before relocating to New Jersey where he spent over two decades in Piscataway before settling in Bridgewater.
For 17 years, Henry brought his meticulous and steady hand to his role as an accountant at J&R Equities in New York City, retiring to spend more time with his loved ones and indulge in his passions. A member of St. Francis Cabrini Church in Piscataway and active in the BLD prayer community for many years, his faith was a cornerstone of his life.
Henry was known for his zest for life, especially his love for food. His family fondly remembers outings to The Cheesecake Factory, where he delighted in ordering a feast for the table. His playful nature shone through in every laugh, which his family likened to the joyful sound of Tickle Me Elmo, and his grand adventures in Nerf gun battles with his grandchildren.
In addition to being a devoted family man, Henry was an avid shopper with a particular fondness for Polo. His sense of style was matched only by his generous spirit.
In February of last year, Henry married Gigi Vibar. Henry is lovingly remembered by his children, Jahn de Vera and his wife Christine, David de Vera and his wife Jessica, Janice Morano and her husband Andrew, and Hanna de Vera; and his grandchildren, Jamie de Vera, Isabella de Vera, and Andrew Morano.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 18, and Friday, April 19, from 4 to 8 PM at Higgins Home For Funerals, 752 Mountain Blvd., Watchung, NJ. A Mass will be held on Saturday, April 20, at 10 AM at St. Frances Cabrini Church in Piscataway, NJ. Private cremation will follow.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, honoring both Henry and Nancy’s journey.
Henry's legacy is a tapestry of love, laughter, and the joy of a life well-lived. He will be deeply missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
