I am Ms. Pearl Gipson’s nephew; I didn’t know her very well . The most salient memory I have of my Aunt Pearl follows: My brother and I must have slept over. In the morning, she had prepared breakfast for my cousins. She asked me if I wanted what everybody else was eating. I do not think I knew what they were eating, I was young, my palate was pedestrian and I didn’t have enough awareness to just eat what everybody else was eating. She offered to make me eggs and grits, I hadn’t experienced those foods yet either. She asked if I would like her to make other things too. It was important for her that I make a choice, I do not recall what I decided on, obviously she was kind, generous, patient. But there was something else and I feel it every time I recall the memory, even to this day Aunt Pearl was concerned for my wellbeing, because we were family. I have never to date ever had that feeling outside of relations with blood relatives. Alicia, Michelle, Roy and Glen, I am sorry for your loss.
