Obituary of Sarah Jane Lamperti
With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Sarah Jane Lamperti, a cherished soul who departed this world on the morning of July 23, 2024, at the age of 88 in Lakewood, New Jersey.
Sarah was born in Muncie, Indiana, in 1936, and moved to Plainfield, New Jersey, at the age of 12. A proud alumna of Plainfield High School, she furthered her education at Fitkin’s Nursing School (now Jersey Shore Medical Center) in Neptune, where she earned her nursing degree. Her career spanned several esteemed institutions including Somerset Medical Center, Overlook Hospital, Muhlenberg Hospital in Plainfield, and Greenbrook Nursing Home.
In 1979, alongside her beloved husband Arthur, Sarah ventured into the culinary world by opening "Sarah Jane's," a restaurant in Somerville named in her honor. She dedicated herself to managing the establishment until her son, James, took over the business two decades ago. Sarah's entrepreneurial spirit was matched by her nurturing nature and love for her family.
Sarah cherished her leisure time; she was an avid visitor to Atlantic City, an enthusiastic card player, a passionate shopper, and an excellent cook known for her baking skills. Her life was a testament to the joys of raising a family and spending precious moments with loved ones.
Sarah leaves behind her loving husband of 65 years, Arthur Lamperti, and is mourned by her children: Scott Lamperti and his wife Rose Marie, James Lamperti and his wife Meredith, Bonnie Foerst and her husband Steve, and David Lamperti and his wife Susan. She was a proud grandmother to 11 grandchildren: Lisa (Allen), Jessica, Amanda, James, Monica (John), Brian (Kate), Zachary, Cameron, Travis, Trevor (Alexandra), and Ellysa (Peter).
Visitation will be held on Sunday, July 28, from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Higgins Home For Funerals in Watchung, New Jersey. A funeral mass will be celebrated at Saint Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church in North Plainfield at 9:30 AM on Monday, followed by the burial at Hillside Cemetery in Scotch Plains.
Sarah Jane Lamperti was a beacon of love and kindness, whose legacy will live on in the hearts of those she touched. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to a charity of your choice.
