Obituary of Evelyn Mary Reilly
Evelyn Mary Reilly, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother, passed away peacefully at the age of 95 on Friday, August 2, 2024, at her son's home in Basking Ridge, New Jersey. Born on April 4, 1929, to Arthur and Helen Hubbs in Huntington Station, Long Island, New York, Evelyn lived a life full of love, creativity, and devotion.
Evelyn spent her early years in Huntington Station before her family relocated to College Point, New York. It was there, while her parents ran a bar and grill, that she met the love of her life, Bernard Patrick Reilly. Their paths intertwined at the bar and grill, leading to a blossoming relationship and their eventual marriage on October 29, 1950, at Saint Fidelis Church.
Her journey through life saw her residing in various places, including Willingboro, New Jersey, Plainfield, New Jersey, Edenton, North Carolina, and finally Basking Ridge, New Jersey, where she moved three years ago. Each move was a testament to her adaptability and her unwavering spirit.
Evelyn was a former communicant of St. Bernard's Roman Catholic Church in Plainfield, New Jersey. Her Catholic faith was a cornerstone of her life, providing her with strength, guidance, and a deep sense of community. Her commitment to her faith was evident in every aspect of her life, and she was a proud and devoted Catholic.
A woman of many talents, Evelyn was skilled in quilting, sewing, and cross-stitching, creating beautiful quilts for her family members that will be cherished for generations. Her intelligence shone through in her love for crossword puzzles and her ability to answer Jeopardy questions with ease. Evelyn was also a talented writer, crafting heartfelt greeting cards for which she was paid, a true testament to her creative spirit.
Evelyn's culinary skills were unmatched, and she was known as an excellent cook who delighted in preparing meals for her loved ones. Her passion for the New York Mets was unwavering, and she was an avid, die-hard fan who supported her team through every season.
Above all, Evelyn was a supportive and loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, always putting her family first. She is predeceased by her beloved husband, Bernard Patrick Reilly, who passed away in 2012, and her son-in-law, Thomas Beadle.
She is survived by her eleven devoted children and their spouses: Jean Race and her husband Bob, Charles Reilly and his wife Jeannie, Dolores Beadle, Michael Reilly, John Reilly and his wife Patricia, Brian Reilly, Alice Reilly, Thomas Reilly and his wife Theresa, Patrick Reilly and his wife Lorrie, Christine Nastarowicz and her husband Michael, and Joseph Reilly and his wife Lois. Evelyn's legacy continues through her 32 grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her cherished sister, Katherine Devine.
Evelyn's family kindly requests that memorial donations be made in her loving name to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
A visitation will be held on Sunday, August 4, 2024, from 2 to 6 p.m., at Higgins Home for Funerals, 752 Mountain Blvd., Watchung, New Jersey. A funeral mass will be celebrated on Monday, August 5, 2024, commencing at 10:00 a.m., at Blessed Sacrament Church,1890 Washington Valley Rd., Martinsville, New Jersey, followed by interment at Mount St. Mary Cemetery in Flushing, New York.
Evelyn Mary Reilly's life was a testament to love, faith, and family. She will be deeply missed but forever remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
