Obituary of Barry James Hunsinger

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Barry James Hunsinger, 68, of Watchung, NJ on July 24th, 2024, surrounded by his family. Barry was born in Overlook Hospital in Summit, NJ on February 16, 1956. He grew up in Watchung, and after a brief time in Roselle Park, returned to live the rest of his life as an active member of the Watchung community.

Barry had the spirit of an eternal optimist and shared an enthusiasm for life in everything he did and with everyone whose path he crossed. Family was an essential part of Barry’s life, as he was a dedicated family man to his wife and two children. When he married, he also added six new sisters to his family, and they loved him like a brother.

Barry was an amazing father not only to his two children, but to anyone that was in need of help or support. He loved Watchung and everyone in it, and treated everyone he encountered like a close friend. He never missed a Watchung Hills football, baseball, or cheerleading event and had a proud Warriors spirit. He served on the Board of Education for many years bringing his passion for education and community to life.

Anytime Barry was around his family, friends, and neighbors, they all knew you could count on him. He was the go-to guy whether help was needed, or if you were just looking for some advice or conversation. As an IT Professional, Barry was always willing to help with any computer or technology related issue and while many called on him to do so, he always did with a generous spirit. Barry was a handyman, a mechanic, and a problem solver, and there wasn’t a whole lot that he couldn’t fix. He shared this skillset and was always willing to help out any who were in need.

One of Barry’s favorite past times was to walk his beloved dog, Bella, down Skyline Drive, often stopping to chat with neighbors. His gift of conversation and his ability to connect with almost anyone was a warmth that will be dearly missed by all those he interacted with on a regular basis.

Barry is survived by his wife of 35 years, Adriana, and his two children, Andrew James and Danelia; his brother Doyle Hunsinger and wife Diane; sister Cindy Carlson Inman and husband Mike. He is preceded in death by his father Doyle J Hunsinger Sr. (2000) and mother Doris (Price) Hunsinger (1982).

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 17, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at Wilson Memorial Union Church, 7 Valley Road, Watchung, New Jersey.
