Obituary of Dr. Samuel Kuang-Zong Chen
Dr. Samuel Chen, a respected urologist and a cherished member of his community, passed away peacefully on August 24, 2024. Born on January 30, 1950, in Taiwan, Dr. Chen embarked on a journey that led him to a distinguished medical career marked by dedication and compassion.
After earning his medical degree from Taipei Medical School, Dr. Chen served in the Taiwanese military, fulfilling his mandatory service commitment. He then moved to the United States in 1977, where he furthered his medical training with a residency in California and Maryland and a fellowship in New York City. He then began his practice in urology, becoming a self-employed physician at JFK University Hospital in Edison, New Jersey, until his retirement in 2023. Since 1988, he has been a resident of Warren, NJ.
Known for his professionalism and perseverance, Dr. Chen dedicated his life to providing exemplary care to his patients. Beyond medicine, he had a passion for golf and frequently perfected his swing on local county courses as well as international courses. He was also a very skilled handyman, particularly when it came to maintaining and performing routine maintenance on family members' cars. Dr. Chen also enjoyed fixing all of the house appliances, winterizing the lawn sprinkler system every year, trimming and taking care of the lawn and all of the trees in his home, and performing IT maintenance on all of the computers in his medical office. It gave him immense pride, joy, and care in ensuring that everything ran smoothly, preferring to handle all of these tasks himself rather than outsourcing them.
Dr. Chen's legacy of love and service lives on through his family. He is survived by his devoted wife of 45 years, Judy Chen; his daughter, Sylvia Chen, and her children, Kaelan and Soraya; two brothers in Taiwan; and a brother in Japan. He was preceded in death by another brother.
Friends and family are invited to honor Dr. Chen's life at the Higgins Home for Funerals, 752 Mountain Blvd., Watchung, New Jersey, on Friday, August 30, 2024, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., followed by a funeral service at 12:00 p.m. Cremation services will be held privately.
Dr. Chen's generous spirit and dedication to his profession and hobbies will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by all who knew him.
