Joseph McKenna II

Obituary of Joseph Michael McKenna II

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Joseph Michael McKenna II, known affectionately as Joe, who departed this life on Thursday, September 5, 2024, at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick. Born on November 28, 1957, in Dover, New Jersey, Joe was a resident of North Brunswick for the last decade, having previously lived in Piscataway, North Carolina, Middlesex, and The Bronx.

Joe proudly served in the United States Army, dedicating himself to the service of his country. Following his military service, he worked as a mechanic and bus driver across New Jersey. Joe was always happiest taking something apart and then putting it back together again.

Joe was a man who cherished the simpler pleasures in life. He enjoyed spending time with his family and especially found joy in celebrating the holidays. He was a devoted and loving caregiver to his partner, Rose. Joe enjoyed following sports and was a fan of the New York Giants through thick and thin.

His parents, Joseph and Jacqueline McKenna (née Le Bian), preceded him in passing.

Joe is survived by Rose, Tykiya, Kelly, and Kory Hunter; Jennifer, Keith, Grady, Torrie, and Kallen Brown; Michelle, Tom, Andrew, and Cori Hundt; and Ian and Lila Harkins. He also leaves behind many cousins, extended family members, and devoted friends.

Joe bravely battled his long-term illness with all that he had, and his family would like to thank the many people who supported him along the way. We would like to give a special mention to Junhong Zhang for her devotion to his care. We would also like to acknowledge the doctors, nurses and staff at RWJ, especially Dr. Jag Sunderram, who shepherded Joe’s care for over 25 years and who Joe trusted implicitly. We are also grateful to Randy Florence, who took Joe to many doctor’s appointments and provided friendship and support.

Joe's life will be celebrated at a memorial service to be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 5, 2024, at Blessed Sacrament Church in Martinsville, NJ.

Joe's legacy of kindness, simplicity, and loyalty will continue to inspire all who knew him. He will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
