We mourn the passing of Mary Ann “Betty” Grossweiler, who left us peacefully on September 7, 2024, at Morristown Memorial Hospital, surrounded by her loving family at the age of 92. Born on May 25, 1932, in Stirling, Betty lived a life marked by devotion to her family, her community, and her faith.
In 1959, Betty and her beloved husband, Allen Grossweiler, whom she married in 1953, moved to Warren, where they built their lives together. Betty was a dedicated professional, working for many years as a supervisor at Exxon Office Systems in Florham Park and later at ITT company in Nutley, overseeing their clean room operations before her retirement.
A longtime member of Mount Bethel Baptist Church in Warren, Betty was deeply involved in her church community, contributing to the cemetery board and embodying the spirit of service. Her commitment extended beyond her church; she was a pivotal member of the Warren senior advisory committee. Betty was an active member of the American Legion Auxiliary since 1961, first with Post 293 and later with Post 12. It was through the Legion Auxilary that Betty played an instrumental role in the program, Operation Shoebox. At the Lyons VA Hospital, Betty’s volunteer efforts included over 500 hours of service.
Betty also dedicated time to local initiatives, such as the annual fishing derby in Warren, reflecting her love for her community. In her leisure, she enjoyed crocheting, watching NASCAR, and traveling with her husband. Above all, she cherished time spent with her three loving grandchildren.
Betty is preceded in death by her husband, Allen Grossweiler (2015), and her sisters, Nancy Raiello (2002) and Virginia “Jean” Nordstrom (2011). She is survived by her children, Philip and his wife Nancy, and Deborah Bertrand; grandchildren, Steven, Jessica and her husband Nick, and Rebecca and her husband Greg.
