Cecilia pasó la primera parte de su vida en Colombia, donde conoció y se casó con el amor de su vida, Miguel Gutierrez. Juntos, construyeron una vida centrada en la familia y la comunidad, siendo copropietarios y operadores de un restaurante llamado Sazón Casera, que se convirtió en un lugar muy apreciado por amigos y vecinos. La pasión de Cecilia por la cocina se reflejaba en cada plato que preparaba, y se enorgullecía de servir a los demás. Su comida no solo alimentaba; era una expresión de su amor y su profundo cuidado por quienes la rodeaban.

En el año 2000, Cecilia tomó la valiente decisión de mudarse a los Estados Unidos con sus tres hijos, Nelson, Alejandra y Constanza, en busca de mejores oportunidades para su futuro. Fue una decisión difícil dejar atrás su amada Colombia y a su esposo, pero su inquebrantable creencia de que Estados Unidos podía ofrecer lo mejor para sus hijos impulsó su determinación. Este acto desinteresado fue un testimonio de su dedicación como madre, siempre poniendo las necesidades de su familia por encima de las suyas.

Después de establecerse en Plainfield, Cecilia continuó dedicándose al cuidado de los demás, trabajando como asistente de salud en el hogar. Su naturaleza compasiva se mostraba en todo lo que hacía, formando profundas conexiones con las personas a las que cuidaba, siempre buscando aliviar sus cargas y brindarles consuelo. Su bondad no conocía límites, y era el tipo de persona que siempre encontraba una solución para cualquier problema. Ya fuera una escucha atenta, una mano amiga o palabras de aliento, Cecilia siempre estaba presente para todos, ofreciendo sabiduría y apoyo a quienes cruzaban su camino.

La fe de Cecilia se convirtió en una parte esencial de su vida en Estados Unidos. Encontró un hogar espiritual en la Iglesia The Stream en Warren, Nueva Jersey, donde abrazó su fe cristiana y se convirtió en un miembro activo de la congregación. Su fe y su compromiso de ayudar a los demás siguieron siendo centrales en su vida.

Cecilia fue precedida en muerte por su esposo, Miguel Gutierrez, quien falleció hace solo seis meses en Colombia, y por su nieto, Esteban Gutierrez. Le sobreviven sus tres amorosos hijos: Nelson Gutierrez, Alejandra Gutierrez y su esposo, Edgardo, y Constanza Gutierrez. También le sobreviven sus cuatro nietos, Alejandro, Camila, Santiago y Crista, así como sus seis hermanos: Ismael, Elsa, Querubín, Marleny, Yolanda y Mery. Cecilia deja un legado de amor, compasión y fortaleza, que vivirá en los corazones de su familia y amigos.

La velación se llevará a cabo el domingo 15 de septiembre de 2024, de 2:00 p.m. a 6:00 p.m. en Higgins Home for Funerals, 752 Mountain Blvd., Watchung, NJ 07069.

Cecilia Gutierrez-Reyes, 71, passed away peacefully at her home in Plainfield, New Jersey, on Friday, September 13, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. Born on April 7, 1953, in Bogotá, Colombia, Cecilia lived a life filled with love, courage, and selflessness.

Cecilia spent the first part of her life in Colombia, where she met and married the love of her life, Miguel Gutierrez. Together, they built a life centered around family and community, co-owning and operating a restaurant called Sazón Casera, which became a cherished gathering place for friends and neighbors. Cecilia's passion for cooking was evident in every dish she prepared, and she took immense pride in serving others. Her food was not just nourishment; it was an expression of her love and her deep care for those around her.

In 2000, Cecilia made the courageous decision to move to the United States with her three children, Nelson, Alejandra, and Constanza, seeking better opportunities for their future. It was a difficult decision to leave her beloved Colombia and her husband behind, but her unwavering belief that America could offer the best for her children fueled her determination. This selfless act was a testament to her dedication as a mother, always putting the needs of her family above her own.

After settling in Plainfield, Cecilia continued to devote herself to caring for others, working as a home health aide. Her compassionate nature shone through in everything she did, and she formed deep connections with the people she cared for, always striving to ease their burdens and bring them comfort. Her kindness knew no bounds, and she was the kind of person who always had a solution to any problem. Whether it was a listening ear, a helping hand, or words of encouragement, Cecilia was there for everyone, offering wisdom and support to all who crossed her path.

Cecilia’s faith became an integral part of her life in America. She found a spiritual home at The Stream Church in Warren, New Jersey, where she embraced her Christian faith and became an active member of the congregation. Her faith and her commitment to helping others remained central to her life.

Cecilia was predeceased by her husband, Miguel Gutierrez, who passed away just six months ago in Colombia, and by her grandson, Esteban Gutierrez. She is survived by her three loving children: Nelson Gutierrez, Alejandra Gutierrez and her husband, Edgardo, and Constanza Gutierrez. She is also survived by her four grandchildren, Alejandro, Camila, Santiago, and Crista, as well as her six siblings: Ismael, Elsa, Querubin, Marleny, Yolanda, and Mery. Cecilia leaves behind a legacy of love, compassion, and strength, which will live on in the hearts of her family and friends.
