Obituary of Gerda Faltermeier

Gerda Faltermeier, 94, passed away peacefully at her home in Martinsville, New Jersey, on Saturday, November 16, 2024.

Born on February 25, 1930, in Germany, Gerda was the daughter of the late Leo and Emma Schwartz. On November 22, 1947, she married the love of her life, Heinz Faltermeier, and together they raised their daughter, Monika. In March of 1954, Gerda, Heinz, and their adoring daughter made the long journey across the Atlantic Ocean, moving to the United States to build a new life together.

Gerda was a longtime and valued employee of Hoechst Celanese in Bridgewater, where she worked for over two decades. She was immensely proud of her career and the hard work that led her to become an Accounts Receivable Supervisor. Gerda took great pride in the responsibility and trust placed in her during her time with the company, which she considered one of her greatest professional achievements.

Outside of her career, Gerda was an exceptionally talented knitter and crocheter. She didn’t just create beautiful works for enjoyment—she had a purpose. Gerda dedicated countless hours to crafting items to help others. She knitted lap blankets for soldiers, crocheted caps for babies in hospitals, and made caps for soldiers to wear under their helmets. She also created warm, handmade items for seniors, donating her work to various organizations with love and care. Her volunteer work brought her immense pride and left a meaningful impact on many lives.

Gerda was also an active member of the Bridgewater Senior Center, where she found community and joy in her later years.

Above all, Gerda cherished her family. She is survived by her loving daughter, Monika; her grandchildren, Jennifer (Brian) and Lori (Arturo); and her five great-grandchildren, Isabella, Ava, Nicolas, and their father, Nicholas, Lily, and Emma.

Gerda was predeceased by the love of her life, Heinz Faltermeier, who passed away in 2021.

Gerda’s family will honor her life with a private funeral ceremony.

Her kindness, dedication, and love will remain in the hearts of all who knew her. In lieu of flowers, the family encourages those who wish to honor Gerda’s memory to donate to organizations that support veterans, hospitals, or seniors—causes close to her heart.
