Obituary of Elizabeth M. Egan
Elizabeth M. (Betty/Liz) Egan, née Momberger, 72, of North Plainfield, New Jersey, passed away the evening of her favorite day of the year. After an amazing day of love & laughter with family, she was called home to celebrate in all glory. Liz was born on May 2, 1952, to William and Mary Momberger in Jersey City, New Jersey, and raised in the Heights section.
She graduated from Holy Rosary Academy in Union City, New Jersey, where she established her lifelong friendship with her cherished Palma Vieste Voss.
She moved to North Plainfield where she created an incredible warm & loving home always open to family & friends. Christmastime was a sight to see, with every room decorated with gorgeous decor. She spent days putting a winter wonderland together for everyone to enjoy.
Over the last 35 years, she made countless friendships, especially her very devoted friend Amy Gibriano.
Liz had a fulfilling 20+ year career as a realtor with Berkshire Hathaway in Watchung, New Jersey. She was known for her professionalism, warmth, and ability to connect with her clients, many coworkers & clients of whom became dear friends.
A devout Catholic, Liz was a parishioner of St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church in North Plainfield, where her faith was central to her life.
Elizabeth was a proud member of the Watchung Hills Elks Lodge #885, where she served many appointments and enjoyed serving her community. Elizabeth's zest for life was evident in the many passions she pursued. She found joy in trips to Atlantic City and thoroughly enjoyed Words with Friends, crossword puzzles, and Scrabble—where her sharp mind always made her a formidable opponent. She loved to cook and experiment with new recipes but was known for her sauce, lasagna, and rice pudding, which were loved by all.
Above all, Elizabeth adored her family & loved fiercely, reminding them regularly just how much through words & actions. Her children and grandchildren were the light of her life, and she took immense pride in their accomplishments and happiness. She referred to her grandchildren as her greatest gift. Her feisty spirit, infectious laughter, and boundless love for those around her will be deeply missed.
Elizabeth was predeceased by her siblings, Joan, and William Momberger. She is survived by her devoted husband, Robert Egan, with whom they’d celebrate 50 years of marriage in May. Her two beloved daughters, Kelly Stanaway and her husband, Chris, and Samantha Egan; her most cherished pride & joy, her grandchildren, Rylee and Hudson. Her dear sister and best friend, Mary Ellen Momberger, and her husband, James, along with nieces, nephews, cousins, and great nieces and nephews & special friends that she adored.
A funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, December 31, 2024, at 9:30 AM at St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church, corner of Jackson Avenue and Watchung Avenue, North Plainfield, NJ.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
Elizabeth’s family and friends will forever remember her as a vibrant, loving, and selfless woman who embraced life with passion and filled every room with joy. Her legacy of love, laughter, and strength will remain in the hearts of all who knew her.
